I finally got a great deal!

On my local criegslist I found someone advertising a nice fishing boat.

Aluminum 16 foot Console
35 hp mercury outboard starts instantly!
Battery
2 trolling motors, 1 foot controlled
gas tank
live well ( built in )
Digital Depth/fish finder
On trailer

needing new seats, new tilt/trim pump assembly and TLC

I went to pick it up and the guy nearly backed out... He said he had been looking and that boats like his were selling for a LOT more.. He was right! they are!

I kept quiet and handed him the money, he took it and gave me the papers.

I pulled away with a big smile on my face.

I have spent another 250.00 on it. Life vest, cover for hull and motor, new live well pump, new deep cycle battery, 4 new seats and some other small provisions.

That puts me $850.00 into one hell of a fishing rig.

I sold my Kayak for $375.00 so for $475.00 i made a HUGE upgrade!

Ill be hitting the lake next week! cant wait!

The best part is, after the work I have done to this it is probably worth close to 2000-2500.

Gotta love those "steal" deals. I kinda feel bad for the guy, he didn't research value prior to setting the price, but at least he didn't back out on the deal after I drove over an hour to get out to him. Heck I have his number, Ill probably go fishing with him sometime!

The motor itself is worth $850 if it runs well.

I haven't had it on the water yet, but it starts instantly and idles pretty smooth and sounds healthy. Revs right up.

Ill know more once I get it out on the water. Of course I could fill up a trashcan with water and spool it up, but Id rather get it on some water. I think its going to Be A-O-K.

You started it up in some kind of water, right? Outboards should never be run dry. The impeller will likely need to be replaced even if it's been run for a minute without water. Actually, the impeller should be replaced anyways now that I think of it. The lower unit oil should be replaced as well.

You gonna go for the Bass or some trout Austin?

I'm looking for a great deal like that.
I don't wanna give up my kayaks and it has to come after I acquire myself a tractor, but I hope soon I will find one.

Teach those fish to laugh at me I will.

I wade through cragslist every week looking but now is when everyone wants one.

Ill probably hit the whites a bit but I am mostly after big cats!

They are the ultimate in fishing freshwater to me. Amazing creatures!

I have been fishing for cats since i was like 16. That is pretty much the only populated fish around where i live. I have a little 12 foot fiberglass V that i take to the local river (small river) they only allow a 10hp. Some huge cats have been pulled outa there though. I moved to maine last year and am now looking at landlocked salmon.
