Thanks for the diagram. I don't think there can be any argument in that this design of flap is already in use. How you'll be mounting it on the wing will be interesting.

How's 'bout the ailerons on the flat bottom wing?

The stock A&A kit won't have any modifications-straight from the box.......even the wood cowl.
Those ailerons are top hinged.

That kit is to help me relive the era of design and building.

Now that I know Citabrias had flaps, I may go ahead and install them-hey-they're right there,!

Mr Grant...it is fun ,co working on these projects, and finding the facts on things is satisfying.

When I was younger, I often asked how to make my models better, and some of the 'scale' guys couldn't communicate that.

Now ,some of the fun is utilizing full scale parts, scaled down.....The hinge locations of the full size can be duplicated easily enough, although the hinges themselves may not be worth the effort.

....I set up the jig for the 2 'left' wings, just now, that the hurdles have been jumped in the Xtreme wing..Left parts were cut at the same time the right wing was built.
But the cordless battery is dead, used to install screws for the fixture components.
Dang it !

That hinge design is really, really cool.

My only Citabria experience is about 400 hours in the 7GCAA...and I'm still in love with it 12 years later. I would love to build one...and do it up in the gaudy orange and white of N55JJ...my favorite of the two I flew (though I liked the heel brakes on the other one...N9062L).

The Zlin 526 I'm building has the same setup on the ailerons. The Sig Zlin, of many years ago was also the same. The Sig Zlin flew wonderfully. The full size Zlin used spades in addition to the Freize (sp) ailerons.

My current Zlin uses a rod full length on the ailerons for hinging. If you look in my build thread you can get a glimpse of how it is done, and what I was doing to change mine.

Earl, I'll be watching with interest your progress.

Also observe with interest, when we snap roll that sucker at full throttle, to test the strength of those hinges. lol...

I got a lot of the left wing done for the Xtreme today.

Before I cover the left aileron, I'll post some pics of the setup in detail.

I believe it's plenty strong enough as compared to plastic hinges.

The second left wing is free of the fixture and hanging by the other ones.

I've set up the building table for fuselages now..I've spent the last couple of days building the Monocoupe fuselage, and soon I'll start a pair of Citabrias.

I don't see a lot of differences between the two except the longer gear on the Xtreme, and the airfoiled stab, which won't mean much to building the fuse.

In any event, there are no responses from American concerning 3-views, anyway...

I'm relying on photos to do any details, and that's not what this one is about,at all.
I need a 'Sky-Dril' for boring holes, and this'll do fine.l

Any updates on this build Earl ?
I have the A&A Industries kit But my one is missing some parts for the fuselage ( Firewall C1. F1 and F2 )
So I have to find drawings for these parts or buy a short kit . As you know not all parts are shown on the plans .

Can you cut your own parts? I can send you patterns....If not, I can send you parts if that's all the parts you need.(I don't want to cut a whole kit).....PM your address and needs.

No updates currently-Too expensive to heat the building shop....I'm doing the Monocoupe in the house ....Citabrias are in another building. Soon, though.

if anyone is building the BN Citabria be sure to check the measurements on the drawing of the horizontal stab, mine are the original A&A BN factory prints and the left side stab was 3/8's of an inch shorter on the left side than the right. noticed this while building the elevators, flipped the right elevator over to build a mirror image of the left and found it to be off on the left side by 3/8's, anyone else notice this?
