Jr 9303 2.4

I noticed recently that my transmitter screen flashes on and off when I power up and the battery power level indicator bounces between 7 and 10 volts for a second or two before settling down to 9.8 volts. I would do a range check and everything seems fine. Then flying the pattern I was on the far side of the pattern boom no control on the plane for a second, I recovered and all was ok. The next flight in the same general area I lost everything and my bewautiful durafly p-51 went in. I had a similar incident a couple weeks ago on another plane with a spectrum 6100 Rx and again about 150 yards out nothing and in she goes. Is this a transmitter issue? Are there any diagnostic programs or procedures I can use to find out?
I have lost confidence in my 9303 and the flying season is just getting started.

Sounds like a possible battery problem with the tx. It takes a bit more power to get the tx booted up and transmitting than it does just being on. If the battery is going bad and cannot sustain that little bit of extra load during bootup, it's toast.

Not saying that's your problem for sure, but it sure is the first place I'd look.

This sounds like a tired battery.

The transmitter draws high current pulses when booting (when running as well but too fast rep rate to see on the battery meter).
An old high resistance pack will allow the voltage to drop during these current peaks.

The best troubleshooting method is substituting a charged pack from a friends JR/Spektrum radio and verify the issue goes away.

Thanks guys for your responses. I changed the transmitter battery and problem solved. I converted a 3 cell lipo and noe I am good to go.
