wanted: 1988/1989 Tower Hobbies Catalogs

Hi, I got in the hobby back in 1988. I was 14 and spent months looking at my first two catalogs from Tower Hobbies dreaming of all the planes I wanted to buy, build, and fly. After a bunch of moves and newer catalogs, I lost or tossed my old catalogs. I just got outbid on ebay trying to buy a 1989 catalog and and don't know when others will come along. Hopefully someone here has an 1988 and/or 1989 they could part with? I'm looking to spend $40. Thanks!

Wow, back in the day when tower catalog was an inch thick and I thought it was our hobby bible. I was 16 back then, not too far apart...

Good luck, Mo

Man that's cool! If I had one I would give it to you. We would have to go back another 10 years for me. My first plane and radio came from Hobby Shack(now Hobby People). I would love to have a catalog from them back in the late 70's

I was 18 then, started in '82 at 12 yrs old. I'm the same way, I've bought a couple of old Sig catalogs from that era on ebay. It's neat see all the stuff I used to drool over.
I kept a few of the Tower catalogs, I'll see if I have those years.

I collect these too, along with catalogs from hobby shack (now hobby people) and circus hobbies. Like you guys these bring back a lot of good memories for me as well. Now I have most of those planes I wanted, but it's still a different sensation looking at the old photos I lust after back in the days.

Back then, Sheldon's Hobbies was a powerhouse too. The store now is so depressingly pathetic I could cry.

Alumrock Sheldon's , D&J, and San Antonio, pec,s and Van's... When I was 8, summer of 1980, van's was shutting down and I bought an Airtronics Qtee. That Christmas my brother and I got 6 channel Futaba radios.

I'm bidding on the 1987 catalog on ebay, it's not the one I want but it'll do till I get a 1989 catalog. Back in 1987 I wasn't big into the hobby. I just remember watching an episode of Punky Brewster where they had an RC car race. Christmas '87 I asked and got a Tamiya Frog and started the whole RC thing thereafter. 1989 is when I got into planes, and I'm pretty sure that's my 1st Tower catalog I got because I paid for AMA that year ($20 for junior membership) and Tower must of gotten my info from them and sent me a catalog.
And yes it was Hobby People used to be called Hobby Shack! They opened the El Cajon location back in 88-89 and I remember waiting in the huge line for the doors to open (I was buying Monocote or Flightcote to cover an Olympic 650 or Gentle Lady). I wish I had a Hobby Shack catalog too. I worked at the El Cajon location when I turned 16 in 1990. I got some nice employee discounts
