I bent the shaft on my BP-21 and need some advice.

can this be removed? and if so, how?

Also, can I replace it with a shaft from, say, a GWS EPS-350C gearbox?

I straighten those kind of shafts all the time. If you have a drill press, it's easy. You might even try putting the shaft in a regular drill chuck. Questions?

Good instructions there, Bob, but I do question the tool choices - I don't own an adjustable wrench, and I never will (again ). On step 3, I strongly advise that you put the motor inside a clear plastic bag first, or you will lose the e-clip for sure (ask me how I know ).

If it were my motor, I'd just grind off the bent part with a dremel/cut-off wheel, and use a wobbly prop adapter instead.

Well, since my last post, I got the shaft out, straightened it, installed a prop adapter, flew it in my Formosa, and crashed it! I haven't checked the motor damage yet... Thanks for your help!

Yes! How do you get the shaft back to true with a drill press? Spin the shaft into a steel block with a hole of the same diameter?

I've never been able to bend or hammer mine straight and have gone to wobblies to prevent bent shafts also

If you do shorten the shaft, be sure to put the nut on BEFORE you grind the shaft down.

WH, you actually gave the guy some good advice. Yup, put the nut on first. After you cut the shaft, then remove the nut and it will help straighten the threads.

Place the shaft in the chuck up to the bend.
Put an object on the drill press bed that is parallel to the shaft/drill chuck. This will be your test guage.
Turn the chuck by hand and compare the angle of the shaft to the object. You can easily see if it's straight or not and which way it is crooked.
Tap lightly on the crooked side and compare it with the test guage. Continue to do this till the shaft is parallel with the test guage.
Finally, turn the drill press on and see if any wiggle remains. If it's too much, go back to step 1.
