Aveox 1005/4Y & EZ-30 problem.....

Yesterday and today I encountered an unusual problem with this setup. I went to the field, connected up my 7 cell 600ma battery, and gave the plane full throttle. The motor sputtered and spat like it was getting intermittent power. I pulled off the throttle, waited, and gave it full again...nothing. I grabbed a screwdriver and tapped the prop, and then tried again. It ran fine. I went thru this on all 6 packs. It acted the same cool or hot. There was no glitching, as there was no fluttering controls or anything. Today, it would do it every other pack, hot or cold. Is this a controller fault or perhaps a Hall sensor problem?? If anyone else has seen this, let me know what fixed it.....Thanks!!!!!

Do you mean to say that the motor would cut off in full throttle. If that is the case then I have had the same problem before. What prop size, battery type AR, AE, ect. are you using, and who makes the EZ-30 controller?

rcastab....no, it wasn't cutting out, it was more intermittent and was not always coming on when I would apply full throttle. The EZ-30 is made by Aveox. I am using 7 cell 600AE packs and a 4.7X4.7 CAM racing prop. Thanks for the reply!!

Jimmy,

Do me a favor and try throttling up with the transmitter antenna down. If that's not an improvement, have someone else hold the airplane, step away from it 20 feet, and try throttling up with the anntenna down. See if that helps. Your symptoms sound exactly like the swamping I was experiencing with my 1409 in my Embat...too powerful of a transmitter signal swamping the ESC. I put a ferrite bead on my ESC signal wire and now I can launch with the antenna half-way up--then I pull it all the way up once safely airborne. If I try to launch with the antenna all the way up, the throttle control will not work properly. Good luck--hope this is the problem and I know it's frustrating.

Hi Eric,

I tried your idea, and no joy. Still the same problem. I called Matt at Aveox and explained the problem and the indications. He said that 1 of the phases of the motor is burned out. This is why I have to spin the shaft with my fingers (No prop!!!) to get it to start. It is on its way to Aveox for warranty repairs. But thanks for the great ideas. I appreciate them greatly!!!

Dear jimmy6819,
I sent a Aveox L-30 controller back to them for repair on 6 August. This Esc would not start if BEC was engaged but would run wide open only (i.e.no throttle)if BEC was not engaged. I'm allowing for 1 month for Aveox to return the L-30. Please let me know how long they take to repair your motor.
