Oculus EXL

Did some testing on the new stabs for the Oculus EXL this Sunday. The new larger stabs look great and preformed wonderfully. It made a big difference in the way the airplane handled in slow tight turns. The stall recovery was also faster. Even when it was flying in light lift you could see it wanted to float like a feather in the lift. Hope to have the wing on the board real soon in the next few weeks.

I am starting to see why I fly this airplane and why I love this hobby so much.

Will you be selling separate wing kits once the new model is out for those who may wish to upgrade an older ALES wing?

Like I have stated before in other post the new wings will not fit the old wings. The spar ID size is larger. It went from .350 to .405 Sorry the supplier stopped carrying the parts. It was a good thing to go to the larger wing joiner anyway. It was time to make it better for all. Sorry that they will not be enter changeable. The fuse will be new as well. I am making a few changes to it. The rudder fin will have a filet for the LE of the elevator soon. Hope to have a new mold by May.

I never said that it wouldn't fit the fuse!

Here is a look at the new 48" center wing panel for the EXL. After hours of designing, proto type and building a wing here it is!

Here is a photo I took of a mod for the flaps. I had a little to much flex happening with just the gussets. It's coming along nicely and should have it done soon.

Finally cut the nose off the oculus and installed a motor. It wasn't physically hard, just mentally hard wack off the tip of that nice fuse. After a few hand tosses and trim changes, I gave it a good heave and fired up the motor. Climb was awesome and easily controllable. There will be no problem using this set up for ALES.
HYPERION Gs3020-8
Hacker 70 amp BEC
16/8 aeronaut CAM prop
2200 3s lipo(moto calc reccommended 2200 2c) I needed the weight to ballance so I
used the 3s
I did not put any servos in the tail, both R&E under the wing saddle.
Final weight 75, I am guessing the extra servos, wire in the wing added a few ounces.

Full run up was 64 amps and 590 watts. I only used about 80% throttle to fly.

I orgionally had spoilers in the wings and added flaps, so I now have a RESF.

The flying was the same as before the motor, awesome.
