Question
Scale Boating in Houston

What opportunities are there for scale boating in or near Houston, Texas? I may be moving there, and am into tugboats and such. What part of town is your sailing water?

I'm up in the NW area in Tomball and I have yet to find any scale clubs, only FE and Sail.
I use my neighborhood pond for my playground until I can find something.

Hello CGAux26 and Mitchlandry,

I'm over in Spring, on the edge of the Woodlands.

Asking around in my LHS, I was told the Three Palms Facility at I-45 and FM1488 has some water set aside for Scale Boating. I plan to check it out once the weather warms up a bit.

I've only recently gotten back into RC Boats.
Building Tugs and PTBoats at the moment.

I personally have never been there, but a buddy of mine goes for the 1/8 scale track. I'll have to ask how much boating activity they have going on.

They also have a motocross track , so not sure how busy they get on weekends.

Looks like they also have RC Avaition on site...
Could be a busy place.

I would be interested to hear your Buddy's impressions of the facilities, folks and goings on.

There are several ponds here on the Golf Course, but I have a feeling they would frown on me running my boats in one...

Have you tried Lake Woodlands? I have been kayaking there and see they have a park that might be RC boat friendly.

It was busy though when we passed by.

Thanks, Mitch and Gus. I will check these places out next time we do our snowbird thing and fly south.

Today I am off to my current boating place, Como Lake up in British Columbia.

Mitch,

I have looked at Lake Woodlands.
At times it does look Inviting, though more often than not it looks too Rough for my Tugster Springer.
Still have Much work to do on my Rough Water Fleet, PT Boats and Warships, before I even begin to hold Float Tests...

CGAux26,

Safe Journey.
Hopefully by the time you get back down this way I'll have first hand knowledge of my local waters.
And hopefully I'll have more boats to run...

Sorry, I was mistaken, he goes to Mike's in Porter, not Three Palms. He has not had a chance to check out Three Palms yet.

No Worries,

I'll make a run out to Three Palms in the next few weeks to get a feel for the place.
And I will report back to this thread on my findings.

Might be cool to see if we could get some Houston Area Folks together for some Boating Fun.

If you find other people to run with you can always start your own club !
You never know , word gets around and before you know , you will have
A nice group of members to go boating with.
Good luck , and don't give up !

Up here in the northwest, we have a very successful NON-club at Como Lake in British Columbia. Currently about 2 dozen men, sailors, tugs, fishing boats, sternwheelers, etc. Very proud NOT to need the structure of a club. We get together most Sundays (and a few weekdays) and run boats, then retire to the local pub for a cold one.
