Thanks to Kman for redirecting me to this thread. I just got one of these, made a few little performence mods, and have been very impressed. Here is my post from the review thread and some pictures. What a nice plane!

Not to monopolize this thread, but here is a little video I made showing my upgraded Hellcat. I now run the MAS 11x6x3 and like the scale look of it. A true to scale size on the prop would be 12" so this one is close. I think the MAS 10x7x3 is faster and climbs better, but this one is nearly its equal.

My watt meter says this setup pulls 33 amps and 383 watts. I fly for 7 minutes on 2200 batts and come down at 3.83v per cell.

The picture is a screen capture of a video I made. I thought the plane looked almost real in it, like an old colorized war time photo...

Nice video. I just recently got one of these. Have enjoyed it so far.

Is yours stock except for the prop?

I replaced the stock 30 amp ESC with a Hobby King 35 amp ESC because the 35 amp had the EC3 connectors already on it that my batteries use. It gives me a little head room with the better prop. The stock Tower ESC uses a different connector and I didn't want to go through the hassle of soldering. I also have an old Hobby Eagle A3 v1 gyro in it

Nice flying Davy! Don't you love how you can literally park this plane on landing?

I am only drawing 27A with the MAS 10x7x3 prop. You must have better batteries than what I use.

I tested it with my "best" battery, a no-name black shrinked 2700 mah 35c battery I got free with a Durafly corsair. I does okay and is the same size as my 2200s. I also fly puffy Wildcat Fuel Cell 2200 20-30c and an Eflite 2200 30c. All of them are well used. I've been considering getting replacement batts the next time Hobby King does a sale in the US Warehouses.

I put a GPS logger in mine to see what kind of speeds this plane could achieve. I measured 123 kph or 76 mph. All stock except for using a MAS 10x7x3 prop.

That's blazing considering the size of this thing. I need to get mine out more. It's all stock but I remember thinking it was pretty quick for a cheap bird.

My cheapest plane.... and still haven't dinged it. I only tear up the large, smooth flying, expensive ones

Nice! Mine still continues to shine. I fly it in high wind too when there ain't no way I'm taking my expensive 1100mm and 1400mm planes up.

Got Mine Yesterday

I ordered a Hellcat Last week and it came in yesterday. I haven't had time to put it together yet, but I did pull it out the box to inspect and inventory it.

I must say I am really impressed. I actually have been looking at this plane in Tower catalogs for a couple of years, but didn't pull the trigger till I found this thread and read it. It's you guys fault I now have another plane.

Probably won't get to assemble till this weekend, (although it seems extremely simple to do). Winds here have been awful so who knows when she'll maiden, but I'll report back when I do.

Thanks for twisting my arm.

Ron

You inspired me and I used my old tech to put my Hellcat the test. I stuck my old clunky Suunto GPS watch in the fuse and flew the Hellcat with my MAS 11x6x3 and got a top speed of 69 mph. I tried to keep somewhat level circuits and not steep dives. The watch added a bunch of weight and I flew a 2700 30c batt so I think the plane is capable of more if I had a proper GPS device installed.

I wonder if a GPS logger is available for non-telemetry Frsky RXs?

Rem56 - Your welcome

I did do some big full throttle loops and some some shallow diving when I recorded that session with the GPS logger. So, I bet somewhere close to 70mph in flat and level flight was what it was doing. There wasn't much wind either, maybe 5mph max.

Now I need to throw the logger in my other planes and see how they compare
