This setup works perfectly for my 8FG. Thanks again Birger!

I'm happy/sad to report that these have been so popular that I have run out of circuit boards. I have some on order already but they will probably not show up for another week or two, I will post a closer estimate when I have it.

For now I will take requests in the order they come in and will post updates on this thread as I have them.

Regards,

- Birger

Birger,

Why do you need to use a JR case, what's wrong with making the mods in the original Futaba compatible case. Then for a fixed antenna just use an FRSky replacement Tx antenna, which has the correct gender.

Hi Andy, this is personal preference mostly but the two reasons I prefer the integrated case are:
  • The fact that the antenna is integrated, one less thing to mess with and one less connector that could potentially break.
  • Space, this may be a biggy. The Integrated case has more space in it for the adapter board, swtich and additional wiring. However, it doesn't cost anything to try to fit it in the original case as it would be a throw-away either way.

I haven't looked into how much the FRSKY antenna would be shipped but it may not be that much of a cost savings over the integrated case.

Anyway, that's my thoughts, feel free to experiment !

MY Version of the T8FG Spektrum MOD

Hey guys take a look at my analysis. Any issues here?

http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/6/94672418.jpg/

Uploaded with ImageShack.us

Heres the discontinued product from Horizon: http://www.horizonhobby.com/products...tible-SPMMSMZ9

BTW this is the module I was able to buy from the local hobby shop here in Hong Kong. Its a discontinued product. Basically it is used with the Futaba MZ series and since the MZ outputs have pre-regulated 3.3 Volt output to power the module directly, I had to put in my own 3.3V regulator. This would complete my setup.

As one can see the front and back side of the board inside the Spektrum DM8 Futaba MZ Module. I was pretty dumb founded to see that most of the pins in the bottom header are empty. Only 2 pins are used (Ground in Pin 1, and 3.3V high side at Pin 2) The other interesting thing to note is the upper header has only Ground connected to it.

So far everythings on paper. I have already ordered the resistor/transistor, and voltage regulator from Newark and will be expecting the parts Monday. My intent is to put everything inside the Futaba T8FGS which appears to be pretty roomy. Anyways ofcourse I wont be putting in the Case in there. Just the module parts.

Assuming that you have the pinout on the module right (I can't verify this without research) everything looks good. Just check to ensure that the regulator you selected doesn't require any additional capacitors or anything else.

I traced the routes on the board. Heres are the results:

1) The White Line originates from the PPM OUT pin 3 from the trainer and goes into pin 8 (signal in according to data sheet) of the CY8C27443 Chip.

2) The Black line originates from the GROUND pin 2 from the trainer and is common Ground and is found connected to the Vsource on the CY8C27443 chip and cladded most of the board surface.

3) The Third connection which should be the 3.3Volt High side is found to be traced to the VDrain on the CY8C27443 chip and to the TX module board above.

Basically the Module Board had only 3 areas to plug a wire into. The two wires soldered are already PPM OUT and GROUND according to the trace back to the Square futaba PLUG. Thus the only missing plug is the V++ which is present on the Lower Header strip. So knowing that the FUTABA MZ controllers output 3.3Volts via these pins on the back. It is safe to assume the Power is powered by the Main TX. For our purpose to be used with the T8FGS TX, we need to add an additional Voltage regulator between the VBatt (Pin 4 Trainer Plug) and Pin 2 of the Module Board.

This is what I am looking to do, except use the DM8. I would solder the trainer cord to the backside of where you plug a trainer cord in. There are pins that wouldn't be too hard to solder.
I have a switch that I would route to the top of the radio by all the rest of the switches for the on/off switch.
I would then figure out how to make a bind button....

Birger,

Will this module work with a 72 mHz Futaba 7C?

Hi Jim,

If it has the square trainer port then it should work. Now I don't personally have a 72MHz 7C but I do have a 2.4GHz 7C and it works fine with that one.

Hi All,

Just a quick post to mention that all parts are back in stock and adapter boards are shipping again.

Does the radio transmit the Futaba and Spektrum 2.4 signal at the same? I'm curious if this could also be used to bring telemetry to a Futaba 8fg. In theory you could bind a Spektrum telemetry module using a spektrum receiver and the module and then get the data using a spektrum telemetry module and the STI adaptor connected to your iPhone or iPod.

It is my understanding that once the telemetry module has been bound the the receiver, the receiver is no longer needed and the telemetry module then communicates with the TX.

Yes, you can have the radio and the module transmit at the same time if you turn on the power to the radio (in some of the lower end radios you don't have a choice, you can't turn of the FASST or S-FHSS module).

As for the STI and Spektrum telemetry, I have not first hand experience to share but it sure sounds interest and I love the idea of your spotter holding the telemetry monitor and giving you the readouts. I may have to try it.

I'm getting my new Blade MCPx, Spektrum module, case and Birger's adapter board tomorrow and Friday. Going to be using my Futaba 8FG. Does anyone have a setup MCPx model they'd be willing to share? This is my first heli and I'm going to try to set it up myself just to learn, but would be nice to have a configured model in case I run into any problems. Thanks.

Hi Neil,

You may want to try over at the main 8FG thread, there are a bunch of more followers there and plenty of heli people:
