Build Log
MD80 Lion Air cardboard

Hello, this is my first post as I am very interested in the "demon driver" did for a commercial flight.

I never liked the aeromodelling plane before, all plane is aerobatics but when I saw DD YouTube video so became very interested and four months I am monitor this commercial airlines forum for inspiration.

I am from Jakarta - Indonesia, not good in english and hope we can be friend from this forum.

My plan is build 737-800, but... as a newbie I think this aircraft has a machine that is not safe because it is under the wing.

So , I change to MD80 Lion Air as a commercial airlines in Asia, when it crash I still have the motor

I knew that DD already build this, but I want to build this from the trash (cardboard)

Buddy I think those two 70mm Hobbyking Fans should be more than enough to power your MD-80.

Just keep her light!

I'm figuring 705 watts max total out of these EDFs, so if you keep the model less than 2722 grams (6 pounds) that will put you at 117 watts per 452 grams (1 pound) on a 3S. Plenty of get up and go and you can exceed this weight by another 900 grams (2 pounds) some and still be OK but you'll be more scale in flying.
I'll leave it to DD and other more-experienced builders here to do a sanity check on my numbers.

I love the build method and any MD-80 is pretty cool. I can't believe that nose is just cardboard. Neato.

I've seen an airliner made of cardboard before... at a field in Los Angeles. I think it's flight was documented here on the forums too. Forgot who posted it.

Hopefully this goes well for you and that you decide to build a B739 later. Being Boeing's largest 739 customer, I think you'd owe LionAir at least 1 B737-900 build.
