To caulk the deck

Ok I wanted to ask for input on the Hacker. I know there are a couple of guys watching this build and I respect their skills and opinions. I am installing the sub deck and soon it will be time to add the mahogany. The original design did not call for caulking between the deck planks. There are pros and cons to adding it. If it is exactly even it does look good. What do you think?

GRAVMAN- I think you answered your own question. The real boat did not have caulking between the deck planks, but was ship lath planked with butted seams. You are really going away from the real scale look with the caulked seams, especialy since you took such pains on the hull planking.

Remember it is your boat, and as such you can do what you want to and still say "I BUILT IT MY WAY".

The best thing about working off plans & original design info is these types of decisions are already made. I'm sure there will be plenty of other ones to make, like, what color for the ???

Caulk lines

Black caulk lines might look neat, for something different, but no matter which direction you go that boat is going to look great.

The caulking looks nice but I would go original.

My Hacker had red lead filler for caulking on the decks and I think that it looks better than the white. I think it makes the decks blend in much better.

I think you made the right move, when you get the hatch frames and deck hardware on its really going to pop. Their is so much to take in with the lines of the boat I don't think it would add.But like Rich said its your boat

We found that 10thousands styrene (plastic) between the planks looks like even calking.

But don't use urethane on the plastic it yellows, use lacquer finish...
