Power config for Ultimate biplane 40"

What would you recommend me for powering my new ultimate biplane

specs:

Wing Span: 42 in / 1060 mm
Wing Area: 578 sq in / 37.3 sq dm
Flying Weight: 4.5 lb / 2050 g
Fuselage Length: 39.5 in / 1000 mm

Im not looking for too much sportiveness, i will likely use it for FPV, so I would prefer to have a greater autonomy....4500mah battery ?

I will use a Turnigy Dlux 70A (support 2 to 6s) esc that I already have. I have no idea what to take for the motor /prop. The plane was intended to use a .46glow engine

Something like this running at 700W-800W (~150W/lb) on 4s might do well (ignore all the typos in the "information"!): http://2dogrc.com/product/dualsky-xm...t-900w-46-size. You'll need to match Kv with desired prop size. For a biplane you probably need a big prop, so get the lowest Kv version of this motor.

Cheers, Phil

Why HK? You could take a look at this motor from Hobbypartz. $28

They ship from here in the US. Oh wait, just noticed your in the Great White North. Well anyway, its still not from China. (shipping, not the motor)

If you do look at Hobbypartz, take a look at the Gens Ace batterys. There good for the price.

I would push the cell count up to 5 or your flight time will suffer .

Just a stupid question that I hope someone can answer. If a motor suggestion for power is 4-5 lipos what would a 3S provide? I own a Monster 46 and it suggest 4-5 lipos. I have 2 { 3S - 5000 mAh } lipos that I would like to use on a PT-40 Trainer that weighs 6.75 lbs. I am converting this plane to electric.
THANKZ, William

Slower plane. Motor rpm rating is based on voltage. Kv is at one volt. If you go down in battery voltage, you should go UP in Kv OR a higher pitched prop. But a higher pitch prop can mean more amps, which will make for shorter flighs

So.... I sould be fine. I thought that I would use a 13x8 or 14x8 if I have the ground clearence. I did convert the 3 stage landing gear to a tail dragger system which gave me some more ground clearence. I probly should use a 80A esc ? The motor is EXCeedRC Monster 46 ( 50mm x 55mm / 670kv ). Anybody else with suggestion on my use of 11.1v 5400mAh VENOM Li-Po or my 11.1v 5000mAh ???
  • THANKZ

I always think of a motor manufactures voltage a maximum and not a minimum. On 3S you will have to swing a bigger prop then on 4-5S

Yea.... what is confusing is when the kv is high on a motor ( ex. 1200kv ) the prop size is small ( 9x5 ) and when you use the same motor size but decrease the kv ( 900 ) you can sling a bigger prop... Confusing to me. And then you throw in the fact of inexperence and this can costly if not sure
