both my fms planes spend most of their time in the car, covered and with sheets over them. but this summer I have been seeing alligator skin. the area between the foam pellets shrinks away and the foam gets brittle.

the me109 has a band of this across one of the wings and the wing is actually bent from it, and brittle enough that cracks are developing on the surface from the alligator skin being brittle. it lost a elevator spoon last night in flight an now I realize the entire empennage has it too. this one will be put away till this winter.

the fw190 just got some of this week and it bent the part of the wing above the flaps up 3/8-1/2 inch. its all wavy so im probably going to have to cut it off and replace it.

anyone else seen this?

Joe

Gents, my motor mount is loose, I see no cracking in it, so I'm thinking the foam behind it is compressed. To fix - I'm thinking of epoxy at the front of the mount with a weight hanging down from the prop shaft with the nose of the FW - 190 pointing straight down allowing the epoxy 24 hrs to cure (20 min epoxy). Does this sound like a good fix? Suggestions welcomed.

Thanks

G'day Kevin,

I had the plastic mount bit move a little as well after testing the 4258 in it before my maiden. I assumed it was the bigger motor causing the issue. To fix it, I ran some foam safe ca all along the edges where it joins the foam, waited for it to dry, then ran a layer of epoxy over it. Seems solid as now. Hopefully the high winds we are getting of late will bugger off and I can finally go maiden this baby. Hope it helps mate.

Re-maiden video

Hi all,

here's the video I shot of the re-maiden after the repairs, with a mini recap of the plane's life milestones so far.

Enjoy

Thanks guys!

Bob (BTL) you're always welcome to take a little trip to the UK for some flying at Wisley. We may have to do some weeding before any flying around this time of year though: p

I really wish I could do that! The flying - not the weeding!
