Saito 91 rear bearing orientation

Hi,

I just removed the bearings of a Saito 91 but I forgot what should be the proper orientation, I believe the covered side should be facing the nose and the balls exposed to the piston side but not sure?? (see the attached pics). Any advice?

To my knowledge, that does not make any difference....

But maybe other experts can prove me wrong....

There shouldn't be any shield on the rear bearing. How are the cam/lifters going to get oil?

Are these OEM Saito bearings?

It is not a shield.... it is a bearing with a resin cage....

I just pull the seal or shield off of the rear bearing and put it in. That allows some of the oil to get to the camshaft area through the gap between the crankshaft and crankcase.

Larry,

As Bert wrote, this is for sure a plastic (probably polyamide) cage.

That is what the item looks like un-fitted.

Well. I just took a look of my other Saito 72 and then installed the bearing in the same way in the 91 (plastic cage facing the piston), today Ill fire it up so lets see how it behave.

Don't worry about it, it is a cage, not a seal. And as such, it really does not matter how it is fitted.
