First real build. Goldberg Eagle 2
OK, I have built a rubber band powered balsa plane. With
some help cutting out the parts. Brad won't let me use the
band saw. I use the scroll saw.
I have helped on several balsa builds, mainly sanding.
I have done several foamies. Well, three..
I have ordered a Goldberg Eagle 2. I am going to try and
do it by my self, with a bit of supervision.
I am doing it electric, ordered the motor, ESC from Headsup.
I will be building it three channel with the ailerons
fixed but able to fit a servo later it I want. I know it
will have a lot of dihedral but still should fly with
ailerons. Should be very forgiving. I am a three
channel only flier now.
The kit should be here today and I can get started on
some of the pieces pretty soon. Brad needs to do
the wing on the Sportster and then the big table will
I wanted something that could handle the wind better
than the little foamies I have been flying.
We have several 4s 5000mah batteries.
I am going to use a seperate rec. battery.
17g Powerup metal gear servos. I also ordered some 3" lite wheels.
It should be around five pounds.

OK, it is here and I have looked it over for missing parts and broken
things, it is fine.
I realize I will need some help with the motor and battery part, but
it already has the hatch so it shouldn't be too hard. It is a lot bigger
than I thought it would be. The big wheels are going to look great
on it. It will be red and white, Red fuselage and white wing and
tail. Some red on the wing to help see it. We have an extra roll
of red left over from the P-51. We buy white in the 25' rolls.
Will prop it to about 500w. Start with an 11X6.
I am ready to get started...........

You have been around balsa planes for some time so you should have no problem with the Eagle 11, it is one of the best trainers ever produced and has a reputation to prove it. Go 4 channel in the build you won't be sorry, you can still fly it with 3 and move up to 4 when your ready.

This is an excelent kit, with great instructions.
I suggest, that when you join the wing halves, you go with the least dihedral option. The model will still be gentle enough for training, but will able to perform mild aerobatics, once the student has learned to fly.
I suggest that you just go for the 4 channel option in the beginning. With less dihedral, and the addition of ailerons, your model will fly much better, and the student should learn much faster.

Please build it four channel, you can fly it a long time without being bored. Here is one that I was given, really did not want to build a trainer so this is what I did.

it has the three channel option. I like three channel planes.
I don't get a lot of time to fly, I want it simple. I have flown
the Tower 40 a little, and the Sensei, I just like three
channel. I love my Flylite, but most days are just a little
too windy for it.
BTW, I got a EP Cub some time ago, didn't check it out too
good, it was a four channel so I put it away. Brad is going to
do it later.

Fitting things together and working out the mount for the motor.
Adding a firewall in front of the original with the proper angles
for the motor. More sanding and filing on the fuselage than I
thought there would be.

It is a great plane to start with. Goes together well. Does not require a great deal of sanding. And it is agreat flyer to boot.
I ought to know. I've built over 300 of them--both versions.
