Help!
Savage F4 article

Ordered the plans from Model Airplane News. Looking for the article from the magazine.
I was wondering if anyone has the article they could scan?

Right, but I was looking for the text.
I'll look at the thread though. Thanks.

I think you mean bob Holman? I looked at his site but didn't see the F4 parts listed. I suppose I'll have to talk to them at Toledo or send an email.

Mark, will the manual that came with the kit help? I still have it and could copy -- is that legal?

Killickb, that would be big help! I doubt there's copyright issues on the instructions, and since they got my money on the plans I don't think they would care if you scanned and emailed the instructions.

What is this? Mark doing EDF?

I built the Phantom, also. I don't recall a manual. I guess I may have one?

LOL....I'm going to look into it, which is why I bought the plan. There used to be a unit based here at Selfridge ANG base in MI that flew them. Every day over our house we could see the smoke trail...and shaking china. They used to tell us that in Nam, if it was smoking it was friendly lol
I'll probably build it up w no gear as I fly from grass. Trying to get a little EDF knowledge for a scratch design EDF....possibly a twin. Think Super Sportwin with fans type thing...

Never mind on the instructions, I found them DEEP into the original F4 thread.

Mark, I modified mine to use a 70mm fan. HET 6904(EVO would be better). ARC 28-47-1.5(2850Kv) and 5s-3000 Zippy 45c. I did not use the LG either. So, many ply parts were not used. My build on the thread, goes forward from page 40 http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showt...081608&page=40

I was actually running more power than Dans 90mm. Less static thrust, but much higher exhaust effux. Many 90mm designs fly fine on 70mm. I did the RBC Panther for 70mm, same system, but a Mini-Fan. Very light.

I think I still have a set of ducts for this, using the 70mm. Not sure. I know I pulled a few sets. But I still have the plugs. Your welcome to them.

Mine was quite fast on the 70mm. About 100-110. 56A@1075W. a CS10 fan would work good, as the intakes are over 100%FSA, and the exghaust can be made to 100% easily(needed for this fan)

I still have the frame, but with a busted nose. The bungee hook was a bad design, it grabbed the ring and pulled the nose down, instead of releasing. Lesson learned.

Good to see you over hear on the "dark side". Be warned...jets can be addictive, once you get used to building inside-out.

Fuzz

BTW, I would like to see you design some 70mm sized jets. You seem to like older design types. Thats good. Not enough old jet designs.

Thanks. I got to your build on the thread, and I agree. There's a lot of weight to cut out. I don't see an issue w 90 fan or 70 fan, have to see what's out there. Maybe even scale down
I'd have to do some research on hook position...

I like a lot of designs, the older ones are classy yet simple and fly well. I try to make things simple yet sexy.

I have no problems with people copying and mailing the instructions as long as they don't remove or alter the copyright embedded in the PDF.

FWIW, the article really won't help build the model. It's a very-very abbreviated version of the instructions.

Yes, you can order laser cut parts from Bob Holman (bhplans at aol dot com) Just tell him it's for the Savage Light F-4 Phantom.

Please post pics of your progress.

Sweet. I looked at Bobs site and didn't see them anywhere.
Yes, I know Gerry tends to cut the articles short. I typically send a 3000 word article that gets cut to 1500
I did download the PDF manual. It was buried like 30-some pages into the thread lol It'll be helpful though, for sure.

I'm currently working on the Lowers-Minges LM-1 race bird...but the F4 is def in the que.
You think she'd do OK minus rudder? I doubt it would get used much without a landing gear....
