1/9th scale Twin Otter build under way....

Since afternoon today, I have been slowly working on this Totter model to get it ready for a display tomorrow evening at another event for PIA. I'm working slowly on it as my sensation in right foot is slowly coming back that I lost 2 days ago during physio clinic visit.

It's one of many rare kits from early to mid 90's from Horizon Models and are pretty much extinct now. I happen to find one few months ago and it's being built.

Model Specs:
1/9th scale
Fuselage length: 63"
Wingspan 85"

It have fibreglass fuselage with with all bulkheads already installed. It even have landing gear mounts installed. Wing are foamcore sheeted. Core have control rods for throttles, nyrod cables for both flaps and ailerons. NO dihedral brace but I am making it now it from either 1/4" ply or 3/8" plywood sheet.

Both nacelles are 2 part, top and bottom, they arer made from HD abs plastic and have engine mounts and wing mounts already built with them.

Fin and h-stab plus elevators and rudder are also pre-sheeted and also have balsa tips glued on them.

Due to time constraints Its being built as complete as possible including being painted in PIA's 90's sports livery.

I hope to have it displayable by tomorrow afternoon as event starts at 6pm.
If I get time, I will install motors on it with props, other wise props will be mounted on a dowel with spinners on nacelles.

Thank you .....

Update:

Just applied first light coat of clear coat on the fuselage painted areas....

I will wait a bit and then will reapply couple more coats to give it that rich deep look.

Fuselage is still under masking, 1hr 20 mins ago, painted the lighter green band on forward fuselage. it's drying now. still delicate to touch!....I still have to paint lighter blue band before fuse can come out of all the masking...

new ply dihedral brace was cut from larger sheet of 1/4" x 12" x 24" sheet and has been glued between both wing halfs. Once fully cured, this will become one piece wing!.

fin and rudder are fibreglassed on one side, waiting for full cure stage so other side can be fibreglass also. Leading edge and tip of the fin were sanded into proper shape before glassing...I think i'll be lucky if one side could be painted before 6pm...

Fin and rudder were glassed in evening, now ready for sanding, primer and paint.

Main wing's dihedral brace is now solid, this slot is ready to be filled with cap strips.

Fuselage's belly is almost dry with light blue band painted. soon i'll take the masking off.
