Is this plane worth the effort (Turbo Raven)

Well, if you say no something is wrong with you. If by some chance Bill from Stevens aeromodel does not already have this plane drawn up and nearly ready to kit, I will start with the design. I do have a few questions for those that might was a kit of this plane. How do you feal about a fuselage with no sheeting and just stringers? there are too many compound curves to sheet this model with wood but if thats what every one is going to want then i will just have to figure it out. Any suggestions Bill? Here is a Auto Cad drawing that i just got through tracing out.

Stringers are perfect - wider spaced keels are even better.

Mike- Do an "Export" from under the file menu and export to ".bmp" format. You'll have to window your selection after selecting the command.

You may have to open the bitmap and save it to jpeg format as it'll probably exceed E Zone's maximum file size of 102K. Usually after exporting to bitmap and then opening that and saving it as a jpeg, the file size is around 50K.

I've heard some incredible stories about the real turbo Raven. Wish I could have seen the real one fly! Such a sweet looking plane too. --Dennis

Yeah it has the fastest Rate of climb of any prop plane in the world. It was over 7000 ft per minute. My dad built a Midget mustang that had a 160HP fuel injected engine and i think the best it would do was like 3000 ft per minute. The turbo raven would be a heck of a ride.

Hey Mike...3000fpm on 160hp is quite respectable!

Heck yeah it is. This Midget mustang my dad built ( I helped) was top notch. I was running a wrapdrive carbon fiber 4 blade prop and it sounded awesome. He would do low fly buys over 200 mph and that little red plane would be hauling tail. He sold the plane to a guy in WI for right at $40 and the guy crashed it a few years back. Mustang aeronutics has lots of pics of it on there site but there site is down now. ALso if you get sport aviation it was in it a few years back. Solid red with the bubble canopy, NOT THE RAZER BACK.

I saw the full scale Turbo Raven fly a couple times. I was also at Salinas when I saw it crash. I hear Wayne's a few inches shorter because his spine had to be fused.

I emailed him and let him know I was glad he's fully recovered, and got a reply from him. Seemed like a genuine nice guy.

RnR makes (or made) an all fiberglass .60 sized slimer version. My father in law has one. Looks like it's going to be a great flier, although he's a bit hesitant to fly it. "Never fly anything you're afraid to crash". It's a real beauty, 3 3/4 aluminum spinner, imron dark blue raven with 1/4" gold outline. It's beautiful.

If you have a chance to build or create one, do it!
