Ha ..cool Jeff thanks for posting the maiden... yea the steering needs a bit of work..other than that it flew better than expected. I want to move the cg back a bit more. I was at half stick most of the flight because I have not run the power system before and was not sure what to expect from it..only a 2 min flight and the packs came down at 3.91 volts per cell. next flight will be 4min ..I guess I will put the build thread here..decided to do this one backwards....build it fly it then post!

Thanks guys..its super cool looking plane. I like most of Burts stuff...Ken did a great job on the kit. I am sure there was a lot fiddling with airfoils and angles to get this to work.

What retracts Scot is using?

I have a KyA L39 in the works and my hobby king retracts suck...

I know there are some really expensive but to much for the size of plane and for retracts.

Cheers

Hi Roger,
There is a few drawings with various paint jobs I have seen that were proposed. I am going to do a what if desert storm for mine..
Juan,
I use the eflite 10 to 15 or 25 size on all of my kits this size. its a tight fit but they work well.

I started the build of the ARES a few months back ...It was good timming as K&A just made it to 30 years of business...Ken is only doing a few kits now that he has a full time job so If you want one send a email and he can put you on a list....But on to business....
The kit is fully composite so it will build pretty quick. First thing I started is the fan install. Ken gives basic set up instructions but I seem to want to change things a lot...I wanted to put the fan on centerline so I made a mount from lite ply. The fan slips into it from the back and a pair of screws hold it down from one side..

Hey Bret or should I say Doc...Thanks Man...Next flight will be better and I can relax a bit..I dont know of any other K&A Ares pics or vid in flight!
After I mounted the fan I desided to make a intake duct plug then pull a glass part. I put a ply disc in the fan inlet and the fuse inlet then ran a wood rod throught both of them. That gave me my duct ends. I then filled in between with foam. sanded it smooth and glassed it to form the plug. I added a 1/4 ply disc to the end that was over size to make a slip fit over the fan so there would be no lip at the front of the fan.

I think Burt makes his planes look they way they do just to pee off some of the areo engineers...But they work..I am pretty happy with the intake duct for a one off part..after I get everything sorted I plan to make a more scale intake lip then a new duct again..Going to mold a gat gun pod for the side also..Cant have a unarmed Ares.
