Question
m100 cell count?

Hello all,

I am thinking of getting an m100 for my IFO mark 3, but I don't want to have to buy new batteries. Does anyone have any experience with powering an m100 with 8 cell nimh, or 11 cell nimh? Of course I wouldn't be using full throttle all the time, but I do like to keep it pointed up a lot.

Also...how fast can you charge lion batteries? How much is a charger?

Thanks in advance,
Mike

regarding the M100, I can tell you that they recommend a 7-8 cell 300mah nimh as the best battery. I have used 8x300nimh and even an 8x720nimh at full throttle for the whole flight. I have around 50 flights on the M100 and it is fine. It doesn't even get too hot after the flights. One thing about props......it does not like large props as well as the GWS drives. It comes with like a 7in prop and they only talk about as big as an 8x4 gws. I use an 8x6 and sometimes a 9x7. IFO's need big props to hover so be careful. Lithiums......most chargers I've seen are 2 hour chargers. Email Mark Hackett at Hackett electronics to get a charger. I think they are still $14. Mark@hackettelec.com

thanks guys,

Anyone tried a 10 or 11 cell pack with the m100?

If I burn a motor up, is there a place where I can just get the motor without paying for more gears?

Thanks,
Mike

I've been using 7 and 8 cell 370 mAh NiMH packs with my m100s for months. No problems yet. I'm using a GWS 8x4.7 prop on a slowfly bipe, and the m100 works pretty hard to combat all the drag. It gets a little warm after several flights in a row of 8 cell packs, but not excessively hot IMHO.

Here is a web page that advertises replacement motors. I haven't needed one, so can't recommend them yet. I thought I read a few months back that they were out of them. Maybe somebody has tried them recently.

My M-100 seems quite happy on 8X720 NiMH's, but I'm sure you would burn it out fast on 11 cells. I've purchased a replacement for $7.50 from the JetSet folks, but they said "one to a customer."

Jetset can't be the only source for this motor. Anybody know who else might sell this? I too would like to experiment with it. At $7.50 a pop, I'd like to replace a bunch of 280's just to see whether there is a difference.

To repeat what I've said elsewhere, the M100 motor/gear setup is perfect for the Simprop Pfalz D3, if anyone is in that market. I use a 500mah nicad with it.

The M100 motor looks to be the same as the G4046 motor sold by Electronic Goldmine. I've not done a swap to date, so this is from visual examination. The G4046 motor is $1 each.

I run my M100 motors on two LiIon cells (7.2v) such as the 830mAh cells from Mark Hackett. It performs great on an And_Now and a Firefly glider that specified a Speed 400 motor.

terrys01 : The G4046 is a different wind than the M100. There have been a few threads comparing them, and even using parts from each to rebuild. I think the MiniMax motor may be closer, but has anyone tested?

Yes, DNA showed us a picture of the g4046 next to the m100 motor and the g4046 was larger. You might want to search for the motor using it's TR389 name. I remember people purchasing M100's under that name but they had to build the gearbox.

You're confusing the M100 with the MM1. The MM1 is the little hornet motor distributed by radicalRC and you glue parts together to make the gearbox. It supposively has the goldmine motor in it.
The M100/TR389 is a plastic gear case, prop saver, etc all in one with a special motor that NO one has been able to find.
