Spy Shot

This is a peek at a project I have been chipping away at for some time. It is for a 69mm fan and it will have retracts. Enjoy.

Thank you, after doing about 7 different designs I started to figure things out. The molds are waxed with Partall and then one coat of PVA from CST. The white paint is just basic enamal from Menards.

Slowly things are coming along. I need the retracts now to make the mounting plates. All of the parts are done so no it just needs to be put together.

Very nice looking Dan!

Is that Carbon Fiber on the inside of the fuselage? If so, have you had (or do you foresee) any issues with radio interference?

I am thinking of either using a whip on the outside or one of the new 2.4GHz systems with on antenna in the canopy and maybe one on the bottum of the wing. The wing is all fiberglass so that has many options. The Savex F-16 is all carbon and they use a whip but I hate the looks of a whip.

long as the antenna hangs out fast as you can should be ok. my only prob with cf is weight compared to glass, but if you found some light stuff its all good.

I use on layer of 1.5oz glass on the outside for finish and then one layer of 5.5oz carbon. The real reason I am using it is because it is left over, at $55 a yard it is not the best material anymore.

thats not a bad make up at all for weight and strength. probably light and pretty stiff. just might be a tad tougher to hide weave when painting cause 5oz telegraphs through on up to 3 oz sometimes. should make for a plenty strong light weight plane though

The calender keeps me going. The carbon is 5.5oz from aircraftspruce and specialty and has a nice flat weave. That combined with the 1.5oz cloth shows no weave through the paint.
