SABRE X 51" motor/ prop combo question?

My X 51" weighs 4.5 lbs and I have a GT 2826 850kv and a 12x6 APC prop on it ,
It flys ok but will not go vertical unless I have FT on.
Question, what would be the best motor/prop combo that would not cost $100.00. I've heard the Motolfly is the best for it but there must be something else that wouldn't cost $150.00 and would preform as well.
TIA,
G.

The leopard G-32 800kv from value hobby use the 60 amp hobby wing esc and a castle 10 amp bec. You can spin a 13X6.5 or a 13X8 or 14X7 prop just don't use the 14X7 if you like to hold full throttle for a long time.

please add turnagy light elictic props to the list. they are lighter than the rest of the a list wood props and in this size range they pull my planes around better. i second 14 /7 as a good place to start. the extra prop wash will help the 3d performance to no end and make the plane far more forgiving.

my fave is 190g 750kv on 14 8 turnagy prop.

the down side of the cheaper motors is that you usually buy more than one. first i buy the 20 bux speshel. then i want a prop that will get me out of trouble. then i get a 45 buc low kv moter (sunny sky). then the motor cant take the gyroscopic load of the 14 inch prop and gets hot... so i go to subsonic planes and get the right motor for 114.

or the tork 2812 720 for 84bux. both these motors will hold up to a 14 inch prop

so how munch did the cheep motor cost me? 175 plus shipping... so lets say 200.

on the esc question i have had good life out of the ztw spider mutirotor escs you want (80amp burst rating) and they give ya top shelf throttle response. then its a 20g 2cell or a 10g cascle bec to run the servos

buy once!

Flew it today and opened the motor up to FT and I realize the motor that's in it will be fine for now. As I get better at flying it I may go up to the bigger motors you guys posted about. Thank you to all that answered my question.

I'm now using the Emax 2826 860 with a 14x6 prop and have plenty of vertical and the motor doesn't get hot.
I do have another motor coming , a 3526 710 I will be using a 14x7 carbon prop.

I would stick with the 14X7 APC I have yet to find a carbon prop in these sizes that work as good. The 14X7 carbon acts more like a 14X6 at best. If you are set on going carbon I would look for a 14X8.

Thanks for the info.
I'm using a 14x 6 wood right now,, so would the 14x7 carbon act like the 14x 6 wood? I do have a 14x7 APC but have not tried it yet. I've heard the APC is not as good as the wood or carbon prop.
But I wonder at this point in my 3D flying, if I would notice the difference between any of them.

Try the APC 14X7for sure. The wood props are better then APC in the bigger sizes like 15 and16 inch props that I run on my 60 inch Extreme Flight planes. But on anything smaller like the sabre and my 48 inch Extreme Flight planes. APC are the prop of choice. Yes the 14x7 carbon would be very close to the same as the 14x6 wood.

Thank you. I'll give the 14x7 APC a try tomorrow. And let you know how it goes.
I also have a 35" SABRE I'm learning on, and I have an SK3 2836 10x4.5 carbon on and it's a rocket.
