Aluminum Hatch Strips

Hello everyone, Happy Holidays to all. I am posting a question to see what others have done to help keep the aluminum hatch strips down on the engine hatch. This is the Thunderbolt kit I finished up last winter. The problem I am having is the engine hatch strips lift up on the corners or the strip completely comes off. I have used the supplied double sided tape numerous times on the hatch strips but they keep popping up or completely come off. I used the double sided tape on my crackerbox and it held the engine hatch strips on fine. I am looking to maybe use small screws to keep them down, has anyone used the screw method? Any other ideas that I can use to make sure these hatch strips stay down on the hatch for the long term?

Try putting a little crown in them before putting them on

George is right. You must bend the aluminum strip so that it matches the crown of the deck. Also do not try on a waxed deck. Clean the surface with rubbing alcohol before sticking down the tape.

I had the same trouble. I put a crown on the strips and they now stay down.

Larry- just in case you are wondering why, the straight piece of aluminum trim will be acting like a left spring when you just tape it down without pre-bending it. That means that the adhesive on the tape will always be under tension and will pull up if not bent.

Good suggestions , above .
My solution , all aluminum that I didn't want to tack or screw down inside the boat or on BLIVET'S case ( shown ) is held on with E 6000 . Sticks to alum. well , as well as painted surfaces .without damage to paint. Far exceeds Dow / GE silicone seal for strength and grip .

Bow the alum.
Clean painted surface with alcohol , alum . with laquer thinner .
Apply E 600 to alum.
Clamp in place ( Min. 36 hrs ) Because it will be tight ,so dry time will be long .
Immediately wipe off excess .
Wait 10-15 min. and wipe (roll ) off any smudges .
It will not screw up your paint ( I know , I got plenty on my urethaned mahogany )
Just another suggestion .

E 6000 .....clear .........spout tip . At MICHAELS or JOANN FABRICS .
