Transmitter PCB

Name: transmitter.jpg
Views: 418
Size: 59.7 KB
Description:
The top side transmitter PCB is measures 45.7 mm x 89mm and is powered by 12 Volt DC 500 mA. It can control

1. 4 Thrusters. Two aft, one lateral and one vertical. Can control both DC brushless and DC brushed motors with external circuit upto 1KW motors.

2. Two servo units for Pan and Tilt functions for

camera viewing angle control.

4. Light dimmer control.

3. Leak alarm.

The inputs of the transmitter board are connected with a 10 K Ohm potentiometer or a joystick.

Receiver PCB

Name: decoder.jpg
Views: 339
Size: 86.3 KB
Description:

The receiver PCB is 33.0 mm x 35.5 mm and receives information from the transmitter PCB and then outputs a signal into R/C PWM format to control the following.

1. Four ESC units (not supplied) that are used to control

DC brushless motors.

2. Light dimmer control board used either for control of

LEDs or 2 x 12 Volt halogen 75W bulbs.

3. Two Servo units (not supplied) which control pan and tilt

unit for the control of the viewing angle of camera.

4. Leak sensor board.

The receiver only provides the PWM signal and not the power for these external Functions. The sevo functions for pan and tilt are the only two functions that can take power from the receiver.

Light Control PCB

Name: light.jpg

Size: 81.4 KB
Description:

The light control board PCB is 33.0 mm x 35.5 mm receives the PWM signal from the receiver board and can either control LEDs or two 75 Watts halogen bulbs. The light control board also has a fuse to protect the circuit.

Leak Sensor Board

Description:
The leak sensor board is a very simple board that detects a leak of water into the ROV an protects the receiver board.

The Power Disruibution and Fuse PCB

Name: fuse.jpg
Views: 277
Size: 75.9 KB
Description:

The Power distribution board distributes 12Volts DC to all the functions of the ROV and protects boards with a SMD fuse. Depending on the ESC controllers, lights used and servos used use will depent on the value of these fuses.

Looks good and at that price it's a good way to go rather than trying to DIY control boards so this may help bring people into the hobby that otherwise maybe put off by electronics.

Question on the thruster control, is the control signal to the esc standard rc PWM? and can it control reversible brushless esc like those used in rc cars to give forward/reverse operation of thruster?

What is required for the control input to the transmitter board, and what is required for the tether cable.

cheers

Answers to your questions

The boards uses RC PWM and can control both DC brushed and DC brushless with ESC controller or alternative controller. All you need to settup is the full forward/ full reverse and centre point of the controller. I have alread used them in the c-cat ROV controlling 1 KW thrusters. They also have a rotate function that automaticaly does the turn port and starboard (left/right) smoothly using op-am circuitry.

The transmitter can either be potentiometers or a 12V input joystick as used with commercial ROV's with center point adjustments and can easily be bought in RS. The joystick can have also the forward/rev, lateral left and right and also the turn left/right, two other pot will be needed for the lights and depth. Also required would be a joystick for the Pan and tilt for the cammera.

The tether is upto you what you want. If you look at my site which is being updated now will also have a proffesional ROV both built and in Kit parts for Hobbiests and proffesionals alike. This can be used in the private sector or for industry at half the cost of other ROV/s available.

I have the Mk1 type of board from this company and they work very well.

Gordon,

These look great. Thanks for sharing them, and I look forward to seeing them in use. Excellent control option - and great price, too.

Hi,

Is included in the ROV controller and the schematic and source code? I would like to add your own sensors. e.g. Compass.

Greetings Holger

Question about compass

These boards do not have this function. However if you wish this function why do you not use another twister pair and you can by two Atmega chips and have all the functions you wish. These boards are proven and have over 3,000 hrs without breakdown on a professional rov system with a depth rating of 500 mtrs.

Think Gordon missed your question Antony.

Also on the back of Holger's question do you have any plans to add the function of sending external data from the rov to the surface via your board, and also what about auto-depth control?
