This forum, course members, and e-helis
Just read the thread about the "course" posters. I'm one of those who once
came here often but now only maybe once every few months and for the sole purpose of helping an e-heli pilot or two by directing them to forums specific to their helis. Why? Last straw was I tried to discuss e-helis and was told by a certain "B" member, lets see, something like go away and come back when you have a real heli. I remember thinking how closed minded. After all I never said they will replace nitro machines (they won't) so I didn't understand why he was so defensive. I did suggest e-helis will continue to develope and improve including battery and motor technologies and will continue to be around. He told me e-heli was nothing but a novelty and a toy. Talk about being "talked down at" and rude. Anyway, It's this closed mind thinking that has turned off so many folks with this group (not to mention the foul language). The problem is that most e-heli pilots won't come here so many of you may not know what is going on. If you are interested check this out. If not interested, great but don't think you have to post as such just so you can read your own wonderful words in print as they rip someone apart. In otherwords, this is for the enjoyment of those who want to see it and if you are not interested please do not post. http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showt...threadid=91706 http://www.augustoheli.com/videos/vi...bo/default.asp (first video on page, using Lithium) Granted these new batteries are expensive but as with all new technology prices will come down. I don't know about you but this is exciting to me. Hope you enjoy and please try don't flame this if it's not of interest to you. How about letting the rest of us enjoy the continued improvement of these "toys". Heck they are not "real helis" anyway so why waste your time posting eh? |

Electric motors have massive torque at low rpm (the peak of their torque is at 0rpm). They're quiet, and so the rotor sound is more prominent, giving a more scale-heli like sound. I think it's obvious that electrics are becoming more popular, and I have no doubt the coverage of e-helis will (and is) grow in this group as well as everywhere else. I do think though you have to appreciate the fine art of nitro power. It's a buzz for those that are enthusiastic about it. It's like cars nowadays - there're no carburettors (sp?), and it's all ECU managed, so the fun has all but gone out of tuning an engine yourself if you have a modern car. It's all down to ECU remapping chips. I guess for me that's the main difference here. Being able to get into the intricacies and work with all the mechanics is what's so challenging, interesting and rewarding. I have an IC powered Truck, and it's fun... all the tuning you can do etc., as opposed to bolting on more advanced chips and ESCs etc. Electrics are a bit plug'n'go which carries with it a little less of the enthusiast type stuff, but it's all down to personal preference, and is all open to debate (don't include me though! I'm just saying what I'm thinking) As for your hurt feelings, this could happen to you anywhere in life and you should make it a part of your self development plan to be more assertive (definitely), more open-minded (swearing is insulting even though not directed at you?), and less judgemental. There will be many people out there who can help you out in many ways throughout your life. They might just happen to swear a lot though. Or be gay. Or not like electric helicopters. Or hate the British. Or be racist. It doesn't matter if they don't hold the same values as you, some of what they do hold may shape the rest of your life. IMHO Carl (Everything is I.M.H.O unless stated otherwise) |

Re: This forum, course members, and e-helis
I have to say that i did not see the treads you are talking about, but hey,
what the hell! a heli is a heli, electric or not! i got me a little Hoverfly along with lots of others on this NG and i can't see the problem with discussing the electric side of things from time to time! As for the foul language, that is just a fact of life in this day and age, and this NG has been like it for as long as i have been using it! in fact sometimes the more colourful it is, the better the argument. But i have not got a problem with it, but if it offends.................dont read it!!!
