Thanks once again Willy.
Pleased to hear that Snoopy was OK after his adventure.

I have 1500mah and 1800mah 3S lipos which I believe would be perfect for the plane. I also have a DX6i Tx, RX's, and suitable servos etc.

My only concern is finding a suitable motor because if I buy this plane I will want to mount the motor inside the fuselage.

Would like to see the pics of your set-up.

Hi!

This is my motor.

Here are pics

You can see motor points down. Otherwise plane will go up very fast with throttle.

Through air hole, you can see white motor mount and "L" shaped metal support (built by myself)

A lot of damages caused by crashes: this is the plane I've learnt to fly with.

Inside you can see motor mounting and "L" shaped metals.

Willy.

PS: sorry for my poor english: I'm Italian

Thank you very much Willy. You have been very kind and helpful.
Now I can see that a brushless outrunner of up to 28mm diameter can be fitted with some small modifications. Thus, I should be able to order everything from one place here in Spain.

No need to apologise for your English, it's very good. i have lived in Spain for 4 years and my Spanish is much worse than your English.

Un saludo.

I'm still flying mine! I used it as standard for a while, and it does actually fly OK on the standard brushed motor and NiMH pack. Finally my NiMH battery exploded in mid-air. Since I had to do some repairs, I also made some modifications while I was at it.

I went for a crude and simple motor conversion, putting a bell outrunner on the front.

I had to repair the wing, so I scrapped the poor torque-tube arrangement in favour of separate 5g servos in the wing ...

I use a 1300mAh 3S Lipo, which needs to go right forward into the nose, because the brushless motor is so much lighter than the original brushed motor.

Good luck with yours .... Tony S

Bought the newer "Phoenix 742-II" version of this today. Pretty good for $120AU including all gear!

Put it together tonight, hope to fly soon...

Had an easystar a few years ago, that was a great plane I must say.

I got a heap of random plane parts from a dude giving it up, so I pulled out my old TW-742 (which I was flying as a beginer, stock) and gave it a new life. Among other stuff I got an unknown motor with its matched ESC (~25A I think), a hand full of 8x4 props and a lighting kit. I am using 2200mAh 3S LiPos. This is the result

It flies wicked, will just hold a short hover, even with its small control surfaces. I am going to put separate servos in the wings, maybe get a larger pitch prop for more speed (I can easily sacrifice some thrust)

Hi,

Hi everyone i've recently purchased a skyhawk tw-742 and it's been loads of fun.
I'm new to modal aircraft so i've spent longer on the ground then i would have liked
Crash No. 1 = Broken wing (Fixed)
Crash No. 2 = Broken Prop and rear tail fin (Fixed)
Crash No. 3 = Broken Prop (Fixed)
Crash No. 4 = Motor Stuck on full when battery is connected! I assume this is a damaged ESC, if you agree then does anyone know where i can buy a new one?

Thanks in advance for you time

Richard

I kindly suggest you to upgrade to brushless motor and lipo battery.

Willy.
