According to the ArkModel site the Type VII cost around $268.09.

They also have a torpedo launcher for it.

Nice to see that they've got a more legit looking online store set up now. I wonder if it still takes them years to fulfill an order? :P

a lot of pictures in the shop don't work for me... .

btw... .here a picture of an original VIIc (OK, it's an later VIIc/41)

The hulls have been welded, so forget about the huge rivets... .

Why The Rivets??

Yes, very good point. The Type VII, as were all German submarines starting with the Type II, were of welded construction, not rivets, as you can see from the attached photos which are from Conway Maritime Press' U-Boats: History, Development and Equipment 1914-1945.

Reminds me of that old saying, "Aside from that Mrs. Lincoln, how was the play?"

Herrmill,
Great discussion. I was curious after your post to see what I can find and I found a few shots that show rivets were indeed used. Most are very faint or small and I believe overblown in the modeling of the German WWII subs (Don't get me wrong, I like rivets). Take a look at these and let me know what you think. For the record, I am not an expert, but was just researching going off of this discussion. Museum subs may not be the best source because of maintenance or modifications to preserve the sub.

Correction, they were of both welded & riveted construction - the all welded hulls didn't come about until the latter models, most notably the Type XXI & Type XXIII.

Guess the main question that remains is why the over-sized rivet detailing on the hull? Its far more extreme than Revell's or anything else on the market. Perhaps someone from Arkmodel will be kind enough to answer the question since I'm sure they're watching this thread.

One possible reason for the oversized rivets is that scale rivets sometimes disappear after layers of paint.

Yea, but this looks like the illegitimate child of the Disney Nautilus and a Type VII. Oh was that my out loud voice?
I think the rivets are a little over the top for the type of sub it is. HOODSX you did a great job on the model, so this is not about your very skilled abilities. It is more just opinions of the manufacturer and areas for improvement.
