Seems like many folks are planning to run close to 1200W on the Slick. That's about 240W per lb assuming a heavy 5 lb set up. I have always thought that Ben & company were advocating about 160W to 180W per lb to allow better control of the throttle in 3D. So, is it for precision/pattern flying with the Slick that requires the higher power?

We do usually go for 180W per pound. I think we have just been buffering this number a bit as some people do no like the power of some of the systems that I have selected as it doesn't give you that rocket power when you get in trouble. I still prefer that power setup but we also want to make sure we give a little head room for those that want that extra power.

Thanks AJ for your sharing your thoughts. Would running an A40 12S on 4S 25C 3300/3700 packs and 15x6 prop give us closer to the 180W per lb?
Also, I noticed that the 59" Slick has a shorter length than the wing span just like the 42" Slick while other Slicks have a length similar to the wing span. What is the design goal for a shorter length? Would the shorter length be related to theKM's impression that the 59 is more "high strung" compared to the 57 SC? AJ, if you do not want to share things related to design, I understand completely. |

Myp,
I would probably go with the A40-10s and run that on 4s. It seems to work out pretty well on that setup. As far as the design goes we decided to get the slick in to the 10% rule that Imac follows, this way people will not complain about the rule. To be honest this is probably the best flying generations of the slicks. Andrew |

Wow! I just ran across this plane on the 3DHS website. Looks great. I am looking to move up into a bigger plane this year. Currently flying the v2 47" SHP on 13x8 prop on 3s 3000mah packs for several seasons now and it goes to the field every time. I like big air precision flying with some light 3d mixed in. My question would be if I could get a setup to use some of my existing packs? Maybe two 3S 2200-3000 packs for a 6S or perhaps use my 5S 5000 20C packs I use in my Swift heli? Does this plane handle a little more weight for wind penetration?
Edit: I was considering a 72" Extra /DLE 30 setup for long flights, but I don't think it will fit in my xTerra! This seems about the right size to get that bigger feel without having to get a trailer to haul it to the field. |

My hanger is quickly becoming 3DHS only so I don't have much experience with other brands. But I do run a light setup on my 72 SC and I like it that way. My 57 SC is a med weight, high power setup and its great. I will use the same stuff on the 59" Slick. |
