RBC-Kits A4Skyhawk-pics

Hi guys,

here are some pics of the A4 Skyhawk by RBC-kits, I just finished it. AUW is 1245 grs (44 oz.) with Plettenberg 200/25/4 and 10*1250SCR. Kit is excellent but not for absolute beginners....I hope it flies as good as it looks!

Very Nice Cees ... very scale looking.
I've been wanting to put one of these together. After seeing yours I think I'll order one from Hoellein.

Best of luck and let us know when it flies

Happy Holidays!!

I bought an A4 at Dortmund last spring and finally started building it yesterday. After staring at the plans for an hour or so like a deer looking into headlights, I got to work. But after completeing the wing's bottom sheeting I wasn't satisfied with one thing — the weight and stiffness. I went to a hobby shop today (before they closed at 13:00 Hrs) and bought new 1.5mm sheeting. Each wing sheet (piece) is now roughly half the weight as the balsa supplied by RCB.

I phoned Ralf Dvorák today (actually yesterday — its 2:42 on the 25th) to ask if he experieced the same wood quality with his RCB Skyray that he built about 2 years ago. He did. And he wanted to replace the sheeting but he built the model while temporarily stationed in Italy with the German Air Force, and there wasn't a decent hobby shop around to find new balsa.

Cees, did you also notice rather heavy and stiff balsa sheets supplied with your kit? If so, did you use it or replace it? I suspect a good amount of weight could be saved with better (lighter and softer) balsa on this model. My new wing sheeting weighs 36.6 grams versus 68.7 grams with the RCB balsa. That's a 32.1 gram saving, nearly one CP-1700 cell.

I hope to have the plane ready for covering by New Years. Power will be a Mini Fan with HP 200-20-6 and nine or ten CP-1700s; livery will be Blue Angels number 5.

Wood weight

The sheeting in the kit I recieved is very light. The nose wood was slightly heavier but not what I'd call heavy.

The wood in the kit was quite light indeed, complete wing weight including 2 microservos and finish is 162 grs. No need to exchange wood for me.....

Hi Cees,

When I am write we did meet some time a go.
You did a great job on the A4 Shyhawk.
Where and when are you planning to fly the A4 I live in Dordrecht and if possible I will like to see the model fly and take some foto's.
I am a big fan of RBCKITS models and even started designing models for RBC. My first is a Bearcat for speed 280 the MicroWarbird is now kitted by Rob mr RBC.
The second is a FW 190 and have a look at the pic.
I am planning on designing Jets for FM480 and looking forward to see your RBC Jet fly so close to home.

Greatings

Hi Ton,

of course I know you, I even read your articles on electric flight in the dutch modelling magazines; yes, maybe we could fly our fleet of RBC Models in Dordrecht.....I'll send you a private e-mail, so we can talk dutch . -You've got to be careful: I once tried to write some lines in german here and some of those guys got mad!

RBC make great models: I also have the AT6-Texan and the Bristol Beaufighter (still in the box )
