Immersion 600mw or HK / Bevrc / Foxtech 200mw

Its probably been asked before but i couldn't find any comparisons using the search function

So i am about to buy my first FPV set up, i'll be going 5.8Ghz and have narrowed it down to 2 vtx options.

I like the fact the immersionrc 600mw will work with fatsharks inbuilt vrx without the need for a ground station (great for a quick lunch time session) but also appreciate the extra options that a GS based vrx (like the RC305) would offer (diversity, 2nd display etc.) so both have their pros.

My main concern right now is which offers better quality reception / range / reliability. I would like to include the 500mw vtx (HK / Bevrc / Foxtech) but concerned about the high rate of failures.

So if youve had direct experience with both systems please give me your feedback and / or vote in the poll.

I'll be using CL / SPW antennas in case that makes a difference.

The HK 5.8 Ghz kit works with fatsharks goggles, and it features a RC305 as the receiver too.

Wrong.

Fat Shark/ImmersionRC uses Airwave modules. (HK sell unbranded ImmersionRC stuff too but its pretty obvious)

The RC305 uses SkyRF modules.

The two are not compatible. If you are unsure what is what look at the frequencies, if it ends in 0 then its an airwave module, if it ends in 5 then its SkyRF module.

When you look at the fatshark predators on HK all the comments and discussions states that they work with the 5.8 200mw kit from them :

Yes, I'm aware that the 2 systems aren't compatible. Hence why i noted the RC305 vrx for the 200mw vtx.

I did read that someone modified the RC305 vrx to run off both systems 5.8Ghz frequency channels.

Yes, they work via the video in port on the goggles through the RC305 vrx but not directly through the fat shark vrx module.

wasn't at you mate.

I added a vote for IRC. I'm using a mix of Fat Shark and IRC kit and it works great. The reason some people like the 305 is it has very good sensitivity, hence why the 'fox' 200mW was compared to the IRC 600mW. IRC has just released the UNO receiver that has sensitivity about the same as the 305 (-90db) so that in theory makes the IRC system longer range. Also, IRC has a support forum over on FPVlab that Sander is very active on and will help out (provided you are polite).

All good, my comment was mainly in reply to Barok.

Cheers Wayne, I only just started checking out FPVlab last week. Might have to register over there soon.

So............. next question, when is the new "2012" version of the 600mw immersionrc vtx going to be available? Might be my first post over at FPVlab.

You mean the smaller version of the 600mw? Some store sells them already.

Cheeky buggers want $40 for "priority" (which is kind of an ironic name for it as it is the slowest of all shipping methods) shipping.

I find that pretty hard to swallow for a 30 gram part that would probably cost them $10 to ship.

Just ordered some FS Dominators and a 5.8Ghz module so i'll be waiting patiently for the 600mw vtx's to come back into stock somewhere local or at least somewhere that doesn't rip its overseas clients off.

or i'll just swallow my pride and pay the $40...............................in 5 minutes
