This is an excellent idea!
Thought I would give it a try so I went to the website and downloaded a skin for a Camel. I was able to open it with Irfanview and save it off as a .jpg. Opened the jpg in paint shop pro. That's as far as I got last night but I'll play with it some more tonight.
Paint Shop Pro is a great program but I seem to spend more time reading the help than actually doing anything... I did a layered graphic once long ago just to say I did it. Now, how did I do that again.....
I plan on using just printed tissue on my 18" span model.

Layers are pretty easy - if you know how....

Investing some time to learn the basics of layering will definitely pay big dividends. Besides the info in the PSP Learning Center, you can find a monstrous selection of tutorials on the web: for example, Google on "Paint Shop Pro layers" and you'll get an overwhelming number of links, including some outstanding videos.

Using Layers sure made it simple to enlarge or reduce the various elements of the skin (wing, fuselage, tail, etc) to get them each to a common scale.

I would suggest arming yourself with a good three view and a sample paper model before you start. In that regard, let me know if I can be of any help with the Camel (I have the goods).

When I get back next week from a trip to see the grandkids, I'll be exploring some of the Paint Kits that are available for the ROF aircraft - ROF calls them Texture or Skin Templates (layered .psd files).

Looking forward to your Camel as I've always enjoyed your build threads...so where's the Vega?

I have 78 Camel skins in my ROF skin directory. You may have a tough time selecting a scheme.

and did the fuselage and horizontal stab in Depron (the wing shown is a b+w paper mock up to check size):



Also used the 3 view to cut formers for the front of the fuselage and the cockpit area - they will set the transition from the round fuselage front to square behind the cockpit.

As shown in the attachments below, I bevel all edges to be joined, and then apply pastel chalk to the bevels, matching the colors on the tissue. That process ensures that white Depron wont be showing where the parts are mated.

Very nice work on the Fokker. Like the chalk idea to hide the edges. What is the projected ready to fly weight?

Yes, I have the game (it comes with many skins) and have also downloaded some historical skin packs from the ROF site. The included UserViewer and Skin Manager are great for previewing the skins on the airframe.

I also use the chalk to cover any exposed Depron as on the stab or wing outlines, and it's also great for additional weathering.

What is the projected ready to fly weight?

Judging by some of Mentor Pete's finished airframes, I'd guess under 25g (only one wing, and no rigging) ... but really have no sound idea. I'll use the trusty P-51 motor, an AR6400 (or I may use some of my Hobby King Supermicro gear), a 180mah battery, and 1 servo for the ailerons.

If I can't find a suitable Yogurt container as you've done before, I'll just laminate some Depron as in Jin's Triplane or as MIT Kid did here. If I do find a suitable plastic container, I can shape the front by adding some Depron and sanding it.

These if they fit are great since they are thin and therefore you can get a fake motor in there when Toni gets them ready. Or you can also just use thin styrene as I did on the E-III (hard to make it look good though as I did not take time on the visable joints).

Cool Glenn,

Port side serial number block is strange, maybe that side of the rudder was damaged and repaired. It's a camel of the Number 45 Sqn RFC, not sure who flew it.

Like Pete, I don't know which 45 Sqn pilots flew it.
