Good source for wire, high strand, general hobby use? Need not be silicon.

Hi! I've looked around town and all I can seem to find is wire with a low strand count that I imagine would be good for electricians but not so good for general hobby and electronics use. For instance the 16 awg i tried a foot of (29 cents, oh well) had 20 strands and was terrible for soldering end to end and also to anything else.

what i'm looking for is not necessarily the silver silicone jacket specialty RC stuff, as I'd rather not spend $1 or more a foot, but just some high strand count general purpose wire in different sizes.

i've tried searching google and ebay but I must not be searching for the right thing because I keep getting the low strand "hook up" wire, or speaker cable.

Ebay would be great, I love free shipping and positive feedback.

Any help is appreciated.

looking more for stuff thats cheaper per foot if possible. basically just regular untinned copper wire with a pvc jacket, but higher strand count. something more suitable for soldering than the 19 strand I got.

Steve, thanks but I didn't see a way I could order from that company. Is that a volume distributor? I'm just looking for a few yards at a time.

Not what you are looking for due to price, but Castle Creations sells excellent wire for RC use.

Check out loudspeaker cable from Radio Shack or your local auto accessory store. Although not rated for high current applications the high strand count and low resistance make it a cheaper alternative to silicone insulated wire.

thanks for the suggestions guys! much appreciated! I think i'll be going with the black/red speaker wire from radioshack (i think the clear just looks "wrong" for hobby/general use), and if I order a fair bit more than I need from epbuddy.com it keeps the cost around 50-60 cents a foot with shipping which isn't bad, and I can always use wire.

another question.

what gauge wire are the solder cups on a standard xt-60 connector meant to fit?
