Thanks for the data. I'm a little limited in that I have some Castle Creations 80A controllers that I really want to re-use. Also 4s LiPo packs and 35mm outrunners.

~1200 to 1100watts depending if fresh charge or one of the later run ups.
Attached a recording of it going up the line.
~800ft with ~15seconds of motor run.

I have rigged my Viking 1E using current UK F5B expertise (Joe Mouris) and off "my shelf" components. It has been flying all this summer :-

All up weight = 2.9Kg (so a bit on the porky side..)

Yep, I know that all calculations put this set-up way off the scale and it should quite rightly go poof and disappear in a puff of expensive smoke, but, it works really well. Joe has upgraded the software on the Mystery 200A Esc to the new George Shering version allowing for a ramp to ease the power in (every little helps!).
Motor runs are sensible and no longer than 6 seconds (most are under 5 seconds as when it picks up speed this 3M+ glider is no slouch). All motor runs are started when the glider has reasonable speed to lessen the effect and stress of stalled props on the motor (that alarming bark that some people find amusing!). This also reduces the stress on the set-up. Lastly, I allow at least 25 to 30 minutes between flights to allow for motor cooling.
If anyone needs help in getting the best bang for your buck, look no further than the excellent expertise of our UK F5B fliers. They fully understand large KW's of power....

If money were no object this is what I would use to, A) Fit in the Viking and B) Allow it to fly like a Stratair Hurricane E (Yes Santa, I want one badly...):-

Very interesting for sure. I got my Viking2 E Race double carbon almost three months ago, and have managed to get almost nothing done to it yet. This is after waiting for 7 months to get it.

I know there may be better options, but I wanted to use what I had on hand, and not be to concerned about motor run times. So I will be setting mine up with....

Neu 1509/1.5D/6.7
CC ICE Lite 200
RFM 17x13
2x2S 3850 65C NanoTech for 4S (easy fit, and good balance).
I haven't decided on the RX power yet.

This should yeild about 3kw, right at 200A, and pull like a tractor. I'm not trying for a rocket. I have a Hotliner for that. But it should perform very well even for a porker. That is if I can ever find the time to finish it

I have a 3m RCRCM Strega with electric fuse

AUW was originally 3.2 K with 3000mah 4s and rec pack then 2990g with 2700mah 4s and UBEC ---now 2900g ---presently trialing 2200 mah4s (may not last )

Running

Also running Hitec telemetry with voice --(unbelievable) for speed and height purposes

Initial take off max amps 125amps 1802 watts 6/7 secs to height then 99/110 amps 1504 watts for 3/4 secs-----then amps dropping away after 3/4 quick climbs.

Have found that all holds up ok except for batteries---amp draw is very hard on them---pulls down volts to under 3v per cell if I go a little too long on the
" hotlinning" and not enough relaxing themalling.

I try not to use up any more than about 60/65 % of capacity.

Have already given away a set of Turnigy 45c 3000mah 4s and Turnigy Nanos 65c 2700 4s to friends ( still ok for 50/60 amps)

With more practice batteries should hold up better ---eg may just use 2200mah for thermalling

Hi Kilwein ----could I have more info of your watts and amp draw----I have a similiar set up but appear to be pulling more amps.

If yours is the d type you must be way over the motor specs

I thought that Aeronaut props pull more than Graupner ---but according to e -calc that prop will pull more then my setting ?

Anyone else care to comment
