I bought mine from Sammy70 here a little while back, it has aCS10 fan, HET2W27 motor, 60a esc. Do you guys think I would be safe running a 5s battery with this setup?

Yes, you could fly that set up on 5s.... People use the 2w27 with 6s in and evo fan. The thing you would want to check is amp draw to ensure your esc is enough, but with 5s I believe it is.

Just upgraded a friends H2 to the CS10 using a stock motor with cooling fins added and an 85amp ESC mounted in one intake duct.
Worked so well on his original Habu and the sound is great.
4s only as the motor would likely burn up on 5s

Dr. Mad Thrust 70mm 11-Blade Alloy EDF 1900kv Motor - 1900watt (6S)

I just put this HK EDF on the bench for testing and found the power much less than it is rated for!

It measured 600 Watts (~30 Amps) with a 6-cell battery.... A far cry from the 1900 Watts advertised!

EDFs don't draw more current when unloaded flying in the air, do they?

Anyone else have any experience with the HK Dr. Mad Thrust fans?

I'll install it anyways and report back....

What ESC did you use and what was the timing set at? Also, it should put out the watts and lower amps when outside the fuse. How old is your battery? You using teh correct battery with the right amout of cells? Just obvious stuff but worth asking.

Thanks for the comments! This is good information. How should I set up ESC timing for a fan? The battery is brand new, but I did not set anything up on the ESC; it is probably set up for fixed wing outrunners or something 'generic'.

The ESC is a HobbyKing 85A BlueSeries Brushless Speed Controller; I did not set it up, left it at default factory default settings:

Brake: off
Battery type Detect: LiPo with Automatic Cell
Low voltage cutoff threshold: Medium (3.0V/65%)
Timing setup: Automatic
Soft Acceleration Start Up: Medium
Governor mode : OFF
Frequency : 8kHz
Low voltage cutoff type: Reduce power
Spec.
Cont. Current: 85A
Burst Current: 100A
Battery: 2-6 Cell Lipo / 5-18 Cell Ni-XX
SBEC: 5.5V/ 4A Output

Do you think I should invest in a Castle Creations for this or something similar? I am new to EDFs in general.... Thanks!

ESC Timing

ESC Options - I'm guessing the timing should be set to High ?
Please see attached for options... Thanks for the help!

Have you made sure the battery is fully charged and balanced?

The default settings seem ok. I don't know what timing your motor call for? Do you have a stock motor? Try Low timing first, test and try high. See which one runs better. Some motors hate high timing and the sound abnormal.
