My project: Robo Voyager
Hello everyone. long time lurker here. Just wanted to share some info on a ROV project I have started. The big plan is to have a boat that will travel in the ocean and remotely capture videos and images to a hard drive and relay some data back home via a satellite communication.
Check out more details at: www.robovoyager.com
Any insights or ideas you guys have would be greatly appreciated!

Is it not possible for you to use the complete ardupilot. The ouput can be read by an arduino which in turn can talk to the Raspberry or make steer the boat (tried it). That way you can use the interface from ardupilot to plot the journey and let arduino's use sensors to make little adjustments like: not crashing into ships.
Look at the Raspberry sound system in de homebrew section how you can easily interface with arduino to the raspberry. Perhaps you can use the code as a bases for your project. But it is open-source. So please keep it open source so others can also use it or help you with it.
I know there was a race (or at least planned) a while ago where teams build these kind of ships to sail the ocean from europe to america.
PS: also subscribed to your site.
