which type of landing gear--please help
I'm doing a school project involving designing and building a plane to carry as much weight as possible with a Magnum .61 engine.
The design is pretty much done...but our group seems to be split between trike gear and a taildragger. I will be the pilot for the competition, and I'm lobbying heavily for trike gear...I have no interest in fighting with a 30lb tail dragger on the ground. (paved runway, nonetheless).
We all have extensive modeling history, so don't worry...what I am looking for is an article or write-up that states the pros and cons of each gear type and under what circumstances each should be used. While I value all of your opinions, they won't really be helpful; I need something that we can reference.
I was just wondering if there was something you guys looked at that provided a set of criteria because I can't seem to come up with anything useful after hours on google.

Make an aircraft timeline.
Investigate why military aircraft circa 1945-1950 transitioned to trike lg.
Not worrying, just weary of lazy student requests.
