That's it. Good for simple, slab-sided fuses.

Great to see Ashley and yourself thinking ahead...!!!

Dear Brian & Ashley:

The PIPE Here again - from having to stay indoors (inside of my family's central-air-conditioned house) due to the over-85ºF heat indices here in New England this summer forcing me indoors almost all of the time, I've been having some sinus headaches from time to time from the AC's cool air during this too-HOT summer...like the one I've had this Monday, when I wanted to get signed up for a national tax preparation chain's local outlet's "tax school" (to be held this fall) for my best chance to GET BACK TO WORK that I've encountered so far, since graduating from college with my two-year business degree back in June.

I've got until the end of August to get signed up for the classes, but I would much prefer to get signed up as soon as I can !

To get back to Ashley's Telly-40 project, I know I'm echoing everyone else's optimism in seeing her and her father get back to that great family project...

...and with the owner-built RC Modeler fuselage jig on top of all that, that's a great example of the two of you "thinking ahead" to the fuselage construction of Ashley's Telly-40 !!

I'll have to admit that I was completely "in the dark" about Ashley's Telly-40 being built to have FLAPS along with the "basic four" aerodynamic channels...please remember, if one's using flaps, I always hope that their RC transmitter has built-in MIXING in it, so that a bit of down elevator gets fed in as the flaps get applied, to keep a high-winged RC model's nose from unexpectedly getting aimed skywards as the flaps "go down". When I build my Telly-40 kit in time, should I decide to place a sizable set of flaps on mine, one of my MicroStar knobby radio's trio of four-function mixer circuits will get used for exactly such a need !

For CAD skills practice needs (again, for practice to get back to work), and for a new airframe to house my existing OS FS-40 "pre-Surpass" original model (late 1970s vintage!) four-stroke glow fueled mill, I was recently able with some help to get a very nice, detailed scan of the original Sig Kadet Mk.I trainer's plans for CADding up into a MUCH lighter weight version,.to fly with either four-stroke glow power or RC electric power. It's intended to mostly use 1/32nd thick "contest weight" sheet balsa from a local Massachusetts firm for much of its structure, laminated up double with Kevlar tissue between the layers for the slab-sided fuselage's side panels, that could also be nicely powered with a "brushless & A123s" lithium iron phosphate battery pack-powered RC electroflight aircraft for earliest-morning flight session enjoyment. I'd be likely to build a pair of those all at once someday, one for the FS-40 mill, and the other as a "LektriKadet" for the brushless motor and A123 lithium celled pack-powered RC electric trainer.

I'm going to have to head for bed early tonight to avoid a recurrence of that sinus headache again Tuesday...there's LOTS to do for my family tomorrow, including signing up for the "tax school", so like everyone else in this thread, I can't wait to see what Ashley and her dad will be working on next with her Telly-40 project...!

Thanks and Yours Sincerely,

The PIPE....!!

Hello to all Ashley's posts readers,

I am quite sure that I am not the only one to check daily for Ashley's progress.

At that age there is so many types of activities that fascinates a young person.

As an instructor myuself in radio and in flying I have the experience that the best way to teach is to demonstrate and show how it is done. Then of course once demonstrated it is already done. Now time to take pictures.

As I wrote previously Ashley deserves encouragement for her interest in the hobby.

Ashley,

I imagine you will at some time read these postings.
I just wish you to know that all of us that read the thread are anxious to see more of your progress. I am sure however that most realize that you have other interests as well.

We should be patient and show our encouragement with patience and in a practical fashion.

You are a lucky young lady to have a dad helping you to learn so many not only manual dexterity but also the mental attiude of pusuing any valuable project to its finish.

Whenever you feel like it again and at your own progress rate, do not forget you have established a whole big group of fans in the world anxiously waiting to follow your activiies in this hobby.

After those wings the empennage, (tail . . . feathers) are easy.

Following your progress with patience.

One of your fans _ _ _ _ Zor

Getting hammered here again with the monsoon rains and high heat. At least the rain brings the temps down while it is coming down. 85?? Wow, I would be wearing my over coat again!!:Brian, I told you once school started again Ashley would get back to it. School starts here in another week and my grand kids started two weeks ago. For them it is a good thing, they ran out of things to do and were just hanging!! The scroll saw I got them for Xmas is still in the box with the bird house templates I sent with it. I learned that teenage boys attention span is very limited and what they are into today isn't what they will be into next week!!
At least Ashley is a lot more focused then my Frick and Frack!!

Regarding supplied parts not measuring up: I'd be more than tempted to simply glue on some extra material and make it match the plans.

no. do not add extra wood, you are correct in the fact that the plans change. Most of the time, the bit of change will not hurt. Use what the kit comes with. And if you remember Ashley, when I first met you at the Fly-in, I told you that "real" kit builders get stuck to their work. Looking ahead to the first flight.

Any updates? Enquirering minds want to know. She is doing great and is a real insperation. Kinda shows those of us that forget why we started building remember the joy we once felt. Nothing like creating a masterpeice with your own hands. Shaun

So I re-read this thread, and it got my "Gotta build" frame of mind going. I am bashing a Balsa USA DVII into a V 11. The plane that ( so the books say ) Richthofen flew at the 1918 air trials.
