Video cameras... bigger than a Gopro, smaller than a dslr...
Now my tri (and almost-there hex) are up and running, I'm looking at a non-commercial quality (but good obviously) camera. I can carry more weight then the Gopro but I don't want to carry a DSLR in video mode.
I'm looking at something that has at least 90-deg wide capture, records onto SD or simlar (not hard-drive) and weighs up to 600g. The 90-degree fov (or lack there of) seams to be the problem with many small DVC. The Gopro is nice and I do have another lens on the way after scratching the old one but what about a compact video camera? Cheers Pete |

I've been looking at the Sony Nex-5.

You might want to talk with "power" here on the boards. He's done extensive testing and I think it comes down to this: pretty much any consumer level HD camcorder with OIS (optical image stabilization) will simply not work.
See this thread from 2009 but I think everything still holds true. http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=996876 I put my nice Canon Vixia HF200 on my fairly stable AP platform and got nothing but crappy video. Even tuning off the stabilization does not fix the problem (read the thread I posted above for why). Good luck! |

I have flown my old Sony HC5 under the Trex600 and it worked really. It is too big for the tri or hex (in my mind anyway). I'll have a read... probably revision if I really think about it. Tks Pete |

I use it on my Super Solution also - until my next camera.

I've still got 720p video mode on my LX3 @ 24mm but I have my eye on a Panasonic SD9 that's going cheep
I've always wanted one as it was raved about on the forums when it came out a couple of years ago. It's 46 deg fov is standard for consumer-type cameras but I looked at much of what I shoot and I think it will fit in nicely. AUW 335g with battery and it is small. Only 10cm long..  My editor can edit 1080 AVCHD so that isn't a hurdle Pete |
