Mostly the diff also plays a role in gearing down the engine revs. The gear driving the diff then has less teeth then the diff crown gear for instance. In buggies this ratio is often around 3:1

ya the external gearign transfers the power to it and its all trans and diff from there

i couldn't find one, but does anyone have an exploded view of an RC car with labels? id be so much easier if i could find out what all the parts are actually called.

I do have a manual with numbers near the parts, and with a chart on the next page, you can combine numbers with part names. Would that help?

Glad it worked now. Be sure to check other brands manuals as well, as some tend to use different descriptions, so you get more aquainted with those differences.

here's the wheel (couldnt get the custom tread to wrap, so please excuse the skin) and wheel knuckle. im going for good quality, so there're three bearing in there

working on the CF A-arms and castor block now

3 bearings holding the wheel axle? Is the car going to be that heavy? Otherwise, extra bearings, even though these runs smooth, will add extra friction.

true. dropping the third will make that caster mount easier too :P

A-Arm test with a temp block to hold the arms. still need to tinker with the caster->A-arm connections, but its looking pretty good (to me)

Do you have the blocks angled or vertical? On competition buggies often the angle is altered for better handling. Do you have a car with you to occasionally have a peek at?
