Use an experienced tug pilot, ensure your model is nicely trimmed and follow the tug wherever it goes. The most critical phase is take-off, so make sure your finger is on the release switch until you're safely airborne. Don't make undue efforts to follow the tug, just keep the wings level and your glider will naturally follow the tug. If it all gets out of shape at any stage, just release and try again, you'll soon get the hang of it.

Seagull 3m K8 tows really nice, but the as fitted tow release is a bit of a pain, my friend has the 3m K8 and I have the 3m Pilatus and we both replaced the standard tow release with a Multiplex one.

There's a few extra "tips" here http://www.scalesoaring.co.uk/VINTAG...rotowTips.html

Finally enjoy.

It's a lot of fun, once you try it, you'll be hooked! Pun intended.

Thanks for the info. I'm expecting delivery of my new model shortly and am very interested in getting going on the build.

You are gonna just love aerotowing! I've flown a few different types (no helicopters but have flown autogyros) but aerotowing always seems to put the biggest smile on my face! Everyone seems to have a lot of fun at these events! Probably because they are mostly 'fun fly' and no competition is what makes 'em so fun.

Get ahold of Jim Gibson from the Portland club, and plan on attending his Salem aerotows. I guarantee you will get the hang of it with just one or two tows, if you know how to fly smoothly and pay attention to instructions. It is not hard to do! (and it is very addicting...!)

What servo should I use for tow release? A std size servo fits, I figured on metal gear torquey sob to do the job nicely.

For a glider the size of the Seagull Ka8b, any standard servo will work, no need for metal gears unless that's all you've got.
