It's funny that a comment refers to it as a "sniper rifle".

Yea, a muzzle loading "sniper rifle".

Ignorance is bliss.

I'm thinking that the guy decided to play around with an extra fat load on that one because there just aren't enough entrants for the Darwin Awards yet this year.

There was a muzzleloader sniper, the Kentucky rifle.

I was at the bench right next to a guy who had that happen to his caplock rifle. The hammer came across right behind my head and left a nice 8" gash on my buddies shoulder. Other than a catching hot sparks I was unharmed, the shooter had minor cuts on his face and one lens from his glasses left a nice opening just above his brow. Turns out this fellow who had never fired one before had just gotten his first muzzleloader, and decidied his first shot should be at max. load, with smokeless powder that he had laying around. Luckily no one got killed.

Many years and lessons ago, I forgot to remove a metal rammer from the barrel of my 50 cal. Hawken. 70 grains of 3f black powder. Was sitting (alone) at the bench and got knocked over backwards by the recoil as the rod went dancing about 50 yards down range! Still have that rifle undamaged....don't shoot much any more though..And yeah, just like that guy in the video may have done....I loaded a small model cannon with smokeless shotgun (ball) powder and blew the thing to smithereens. Was about 14 at the time. Not old enough to compete for a Darwin.

I knew a guy who was shooting his autopistol at a range and it split...barrel and slide...in half partway. He initially noticed only a strange report, and it wasn't a cheap gun. We talked to both the gun and ammo makers about it, sent them pictures I took, and he ended up being sent a brand new pistol.
