Belrix, That is pretty much where my batteries sit with the Motrolfly 4325, Ice 100 and BEC-PRO. Sounds like we have our compnents in very similar locations too.

I like how you mounted the BEC Pro, I think I will change mine! I have mine mounted inside the fuse on a plate at the bottom, I was worried about it getting enough air flow to keep cool. You idea ROCKS!

Thanks

Thanks Brian. I figured with that large hole in the bottom of the cowl, there should be plenty of air flow even in HA manouvers, just from prop air. It seems to be working fine and the temps are barely warm after a flight.

Here are some numbers on my 70" Slick setup

Reaper GR60XL V2
18x8 APCe
6s 4000 30c

95 amps
2300 watts

Temps after a 5 min flight were about 130F on both the motor and esc on a 90F+ day. Batts were 100F.

Power seems perfect!!

hey scott-

what are the v2's rated for? how many amps can we push them to? an apc18x8 seems like it is drawing an awful lot of current when the motor is supposed to take upto a 18x10

Landing Gear Plate --

Just wondering if most of the 3DHS junkies are adding Gorrila Glue to the landing gear plate to make it stonger. Working on my 2nd 70" Slick (1st Slick may you rest in peaces) I added GG glue to my first, but it made it difficult to repair when I tore my landing gear off in my first little mishap.

I did on mine then I read about a few guys having gear pull outs on rough landings. BTW I am good at those. So I dug it out where the bolts come through and popped the t-nuts out and added 1"x1/16th" aluminum plates to the gear plate (3 of them) and drilled it out for 4 mm bolts and lock nuts. I have had several landings that were not so good and have not had an issue yet. Now I don't know that I would have had a problem if I didn't do the mod but I was waiting for batteries and I tend to over think things so I did it.

Do you mean the motor would be too heavy or the plane in general? I currently run an 8s setup, as do several others here, and it floats along nicely. I would be interested in seeing what a Reaper with something like 300kv would do.

My recommendation is to knock out the blind nuts and tap the plywood with a 10-24 tap. Then harden the threads with thin CA. Then use nylon bolts to hold on the gear. I did not put a nut on the bolt, just used the threaded plywood. You may want to use a nut, if it makes you feel more comfortable or if you feel the plywood in your plane is not capable of holding threads.

After ripping out the gear on my 70" Slick before I made the modification and having to do a major airframe repair. I was told by a friend that this was a good alternative. I have over 20 flights with this set up with no problem. Have not put the plane in a situation where the bolts should have sheered, Yet.

I have the same set-up on my 85" 3D Hobby Shop Katana and the nylons bolts sheered just as they were supposed to when I hit a curb. Saved a major frame repair, just had to patch a hole on each side of the wing where the wheel pants poked a hole in the bottom of the covering as the gear folded. Just put a patch over the hole and ironed in place, no big deal.

On the 70" it is still a good idea to use some epoxy or some medium CA to hit the spots in the landing gear box where the manufacture is way to skimpy on glue.

I agree that Gorilla Glue is way to messy for future repairs. With the nylon bolts you shouldn't have to rebuild a landing gear box.

weight

hey scooter

just thought adding two more cells is uneeded weight when you can fly on 6s just fine.
