GWS Zero Power Options

OK, how do I light a fire under the Zero?

We've been using the stock GWS 370C drive and just got an A drive to try. I've heard of people trying a Speed 400, but we tried an 8 cell 500N pack from a Zagi and the extra power was nice, but the extra weight was a drag.

What other options are there? 280BB? Orion Elite? Hacker B20? AFI 010 BL? New small Mega BL? Anyone tried any of these or something similar to get more umph in your Zero?

the astro 010 fits right into the gear box of the GWS 370. So... Why bother about other BLs

Yah, but don't you need to go up to 10 cells to really get that 010 to sing?

P.S. Besides, I have an 010 mounted on a Pot-3 gearbox... I'd use that, it's lighter than the GWS drive.

keeping it simple

Im going to try a gws 3.75/1 370 drive in my zero. I have many different props including the gws 3 blade. Will use 8 x 350 nicads. Should be much more powerful, and a good bit faster too. Im sure the brushless set ups would be fantastic, but it isnt required to get super vertical in an airplane this size. The stock 5.33/1 gws drive is a bit overgeared for serious aerobatics. Its happiest with big slow props. You would be surprized just how much umph the little spd 300(370) motors will put out when pushed hard. By using a faster gear ratio, and propping for about 8 amps,, the power will be very greatly increased.

The 3.75:1 GWS 370 drive is the A drive I mentioned. We've got it to try too... in my experience, it'll work best with the 9x6. From a performance perspective, the 3-blade prop is a dog IMHO.

P.S. I'm using a similar setup (S300 geared 4:1 with a 10x4.7 on 8 AAA NiMH) in my built-up 10 oz 3D plane (not a RRC Edge!). Got unlimited vertical... I know what they'll do, that's why I'm trying the A drive next.
