Cyclic Servos in a 30cc Airplane?

Hi All,

I'm planning on putting together my first gas plane and am currently deciding on the servos I want to use. With my plane on using a 2S LiPo for power, I've narrowed down my choices for the control surfaces between:

DS8911HV DS8911HV High Voltage Ultra Torque Servo

and

DS8917HV High Voltage Ultra Speed Servo http://www.chiefaircraft.com/jr-ps8917hv.html

Both servos exceed the aircraft manual's minimum torque requirement by a decent margin.

Now my question is, can I use a heli cyclic servo (the DS8917HV) for this plane? Are there any specific disadvantages for this situation? I can only guess that maybe servo life would decrease from this application, and possibly more current draw from the battery do to increased servo centering.

There's no such thing as "cyclical servos". Just fast servos that are suitable for heli swash use, but can be used in other ways. Whether their speed is needed in you particular application is the question.

Thanks. I agree the speed is probably overkill but I thought other peoples reactions when I powered up would be kind of funny. I'll ask about the speed at my local hobby shop and see what they say, after they laugh.

you have enough with 30-50 U$ servos for that plane...but if money is no problem those servos are awesome.

Thanks Mikaroo. Yeah I'm going to spoil myself on this plane and I figure those servos will last me for years.
