Re: Maynard Hill has passed away

Thanks for the info.
As a teen I remember his long flights on roads.
I also remember his altitude flights.

He was amazing and driven.

Re: Maynard Hill has passed away

Just a brief note that he will be sorely missed.

I first met Maynard at the 1972 R/C Soaring Nationals in Chicago. It was one of those glorious "lift-filled" days when you could "thermal" your shoe, if you wanted too! We towed up, side-by-side with our home-made (his design!) thermal sniffers singing away happily in one ear, each. He related to me a technique he was using to get post flight data by recording the output of the small receiver's earphone jack onto a cassette recorder on the ground. You could calibrate the system by hand lowering and raising the thermal sniffer a measured distance over a measured time.

This was almost 40 years ago!

A great guy and a great innovator,
Bob
