For a change of pace, I'm revisiting my interest in autogyros. Starting with the mono-twirl as a basic design ( http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=580311 ), I've drawn up a goofy Ah-64 that matches the key dimensions and angles. Rotor span will be around 12 inches, AR6400 guts. This may end up being a flop, but it's an entertaining distraction for now .

Yeah, when I was collecting info I came across that thread. Cool stuff. Looks like he was using the stub wings as ailerons. I'm going to do direct head control. We'll see how it comes out, getting the rotor flapping right can be pretty tricky when you change size/weight.

Got it almost all done tonight. Just need to install the brick and push rods to the tail. Took a while to figure out the rotor head assembly, but otherwise pretty straight forward. Looks like it'll come in right around 1 ounce.

Al Foot, of Twirl autogyro fame (and his MonoTwirl) have been published with plans in QEFI (Traplett Pubs).

He also in one thread on the Autogyro forum here mentioned his Mini MonoTwirl. It looks like it could be made to fly indoors in a small space.. Does anyone have plans, or know where to get them?

He discusses the need for rotor blade incidence changes with scaling the size.

The mini mono-twirl was the inspiration foe the basic layout and head design. Unfortunately Al's thread only has plans for the full size version. Page 3 has some pics of his mini, along with a brief description: http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showt...=580311&page=3

The head on mine is my best guess of what he was using on the mini monotwirl, based on the pics and videos in the thread. We'll see if it works. The mini in that thread was about 50g, mine should be closer to 30g, so we'll see if I need to adjust the blade pitch at all.

It's on of the HobbyKing 2g guys out of an RTF ducted fan. I've run them off the extra port with the AR6400 with pretty good results.

She flies! And quite well actually. First go with the 7mm BSD unit was a bit too anemic, switched to the 9mm 4-site motor and there is tons of excess power. Needed a bit more down and right thrust than I initially had, and I think the fin could be bigger, but in general I'm pretty happy. Going to cut another using these lessons learned, and paint it up.

Looks great and flies great!

Both this and the Al Foot version look like they are in a constant harrier which could be improved by tilting the rotor mast a bit while retaining the rotor to prop relation as much as possible.

Are you going to post plans?
