TBS Caipirinha

My X-8 is on the table all I have left to do is mount the fpv gear and she's ready and yesterday I seen the tbs caipirinha and i'm thinking I have to have one
My x-8 is my cloud surfer and LONG range cruiser. I built it with 5-10 mile flights as the goal. But for around my farm and 2 miles or less I'm thinking the caipirinha would be perfect.
Anyone flown one yet. It looks really good in the video I seen here :

TBS Caipirinha (3 min 57 sec)

2 days to get to me
impressed with the shipping

Now for what I dont like

wing comes in 2 halfs so you have to glue it together and insert the carbon ribbons and spars
goes together very similar to the tuff wing
ailrons are not connected and it doesnt come with the hinges or tape

Mine was black instead of white, really didnt want black but its how it came
assembling now but do to glue and dry time Its not the fast build I thought it would be

full assembly took about 2 hours start to finish including radio trim
CG seems to be critical on this wing
140mm from front of plane seems to work well if your cg is off by much it probably wont fly or will have really bad flight characteristics

I got my Caipirinha in the air last week and have done 6 FPV flights with it and LOVE it!! I've had lots of FPV flights with a quadcopter but this was the first time I've done FPV with fixed wing.

I'm running the TBS electronics with 3S -2200 on a 7x4 master airscrew prop

Caipirinha FPV flight #6 video link footage (4 min 38 sec)

and here's a picture of it, I don't have a HD camera up front yet.

Ive done plenty on a quad too.. in yellowstone even. Ive done a little bit with a skysurfer/bixler. And a little bit with a micro setup on a mini popwing, bit I like how this is setup from the get go with fpv in mind. But I will want to reuse my 3s 2200 batteries so I'll have to choose my motor based on that. I was thinking the hk 1450kv motor.

Btw whats the foam up front.. weight or protection?

A little bit of both, failed launches seem to go nose first into the dirt hard...

its a nice quick flight plane
it is pretty durable i've done my fare share to mine and its still flying

I cant say I trust it for much more than line of sight
but for quick fpv flights around close (less than a mile) I dont see a problem

beyond that i've had to many quarks with it to trust it to far out with high dollar electronics.

I do think if the wing tips where solid mounted instead of velcro it would help alot

Its a decent quick fly fpv plane. Great for carrying around if you don't have a lot of room. Flies pretty poorly though for the most part, especially compared to the larger Ziis, but its not too bad for the size. Gets thrown around pretty easily so you can't fly very steady in wind. CG is critical, otherwise its pretty easy to get it to do a spiral of death. It is durable though as it should be built light. I've crashed mine plenty of time with hardly any damage.

yes, its very durable. Without a flight stabilizer you do get alot of movement in flight

I find it great for flying around the farm but thats about all I do with it
if it where about 6 inches wider tip to tip on the wings and 4 inches taller (nose to tail) it would probably do wonders for it

I can side launch it with no problems but with its current size it doesnt like to fly at slow speeds

I take it the Velcro doesn't really hold up that well.. Does it wiggle? What's better the tall bunny ears or the smaller wing tips? I would prefer less side to side motion. Is the Velcro thre in case of crashes or so you can try both types?

Anyone have a recommended equip list for the Caipirinha? (besides the TBS stuff) I've got a Penguin I'm (still) working on for my long range cruiser, but ordered a Caip so I can cart it around in the car a bit easier and not have to spend 10 minutes assembling the thing in the field, hooking everything up like I do the Penguin. I've had great experience with RMRC for most of my FPV gear, and of course there's always HK. The TBS electronics just seem a bit... high dollar.

I prefer the symmetrical winglets over the bunny ears. I think the plane flies better with them.

You should either glue the winglets on or devise another system to hodl them in place. The velcro they provide just does not work well at all.
