Fairey Huntsman

My uncle in England found this a couple months ago and mailed it out to me here in New Orleans. Drawings show manufactured in 1972. Should be a little fun as I do like the older kits. Just thought it might be of some amusement. Aparantly he paid five pound for it at a yard sale in Dorset and it does seem to all be there.

My first ever boat build

This was a fun build that got me started in the hobby way back when!

PRPRGENT- First off nice find on the kit. Do the drawings look to scale and give you the hull lines so as to be able to build the boat with out the kit? If so would you be willing to sell a set of plans for the boat. If unable to build the boat from the plans, would you be willing to please make tracings of the parts so as to be able to make a set of usable drawings for the boat?

This was one of the latter designs of Ray Hunt made famous by Dick Bertram’s plywood wonder “MOPPIE” in 1959, and wining the Miami-Nassau race in 1960. Off shore power boating was never the same again.

Actually I was thinking about doing the Fairey Huntress 28’, which had it’s claim to fame in the James Bond movie “From Russia with Love”. At 1/10th scale it would come in at 33 3/4” long. The boat also won the Isle of Wright race powered with a FORD DEARBORN INTERCEPTOR V-8.

The Huntress was also used by the Royal Navy as Capt's gig on 1960's to 70's ships (such as County class DDG's) They are a sweet looking ride!!

Saw one (1:1 scale) advertised for sale in Britain awhile back for 54k pounds, It was immaculate.

Frank g No I would not have any problems traceing of the frames and such. Might need a little schooling in how to get them into an adobe file for scale purposes but again absolutely not. Will try and get some pics of the parts and drawings later and post them here. Does look a fun boat and seemed to me very Bertram esk if that is the right word

Better yet Prprgent, you could just send the kit to Frank, he could get the drawings he needs and then return it to you. Also this would be a great candidate for the new "Vintage Plans" topic. Pete
