Just starting out..kinda

I just love the simplicity of brushless motors!

Can anyone suggest a good starting place to read about the theory behind the design/wiring and switching issues of outrunners? It's been a few decades since I studied basic physics, but I'm curious about these new-fangled things and I'd like to give it a whirl myself.

..but I suspect I'll open a real can of worms!

A good place to start on the practical, if not theoretical considerations: be prepared to do a lot of reading! http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=240993
